Any rocker out there has probably heard that Def Leppard & Billy Idol will be coming to the Coliseum on Aug 20. Even though I consider myself to be a rocker from waaaay back, somehow I just can't get into this whole thing of rockers in their 50's and beyond touring the nation as if they're on the top of the charts. Geez, I saw Def Leppard back in '83 and again in '92. And for trivia buffs, watched them at Follinger Theatre in '78 before they hit it 'big'. And Billy Idol...what's he been doing for the past 20 years or so. Just a while back Lynyrd Skynyrd played at the Embassy, did I go...No, guess I didn't want to hear all the 'heads' yellin' "Free Bird". Very Happy

I saw Skynyrd at Farm Aid probablly back in 2002 or so. They were pretty good. A couple of summers ago I met up with a couple of buddies and went to the Motley Crew and Poison concert. It was more entertaining looking at the people in the crowd than the people on stage. There should be an age limit to women wearing leather bikinis with tassles.

Hey ya old fart, I was at the Foellinger show. They were pushin "Rock Brigade" at the time.

Christ I am old.

Anyhoo...When we went to see Crowded House play I was all prepared for a has-been tour featuring a greatest hits package. What I got was a group of all very talented guys showcasing amazing musicians and brilliant songwriting. The venue was intimate and the show tasteful. I knew about half the songs but didn't care one bit.

I have no issues with older artists playing the stage again. Elvis Costello still writes some of the most brilliant songs and I would pay out the nose to see him play.

Heck I might even go to this Def Leppard show just for shitz-n-gigglez.

To me it only get embarrasing when a band past its prime continues to bash out CRAP for a buck.
HELLO? Rolling Stones, Van Halen, blahblahblah

What I want are the HITS, pal. I coughed up the cash for the ticket so don't force feed me the crap "From the new album".

And for the love of gawd, act your age. We know your 50 , your hips and knees do too. So put away the fucking spandex and just be able to hit the hight notes.

And PLEASE dont fake it.

I saw Van Halen here a couple years ago and was slightly less than impressed. Eddie had to do his mandatory 2o minute adlib solo to appease those in the crowd who still think he can play anywhere near the level of 30 years ago.

If I was to attend this concert coming up, it would probably be more to see Billy Idol than Def Leppard, although I always thought he played up the "tough guy" image a little too much. It would be kind of fun to push him and see if he says "Hey, stop that you big meanie".

I saw Van Halen too Mark. They sucked. Fortunately, Judas Priest is coming out with a new album on June 17th. It's a conceptual album based on the life of Nostradamos and has a taste of opera theater to it although it is still without a doubt classic Priest.

Even though Glenn Tipton is approaching 60, I'll buy the album and probably make the drive to Detroit or Chicago to see them in concert.

I saw Van Hagar twice when they last toured.. once in Columbus at the Schott.. and it sucked.. then I won tickets here at the coliseum and I was actually in the "rings" of the stage.. totally different experience and it rocked. Eddie wasn't what everyone had hoped and was clearly drunk off his ass, but he's still better than about 90% of the guitarists out there today. But I was there more to see Alex than Eddie, so I was happy, I got to be within a couple feet of my idol, hard to top that.

My wife is all about the Def Lepard/Idol concert. Personally, I hate concerts at the coliseum unless I've got close seats. After Van Halen and Metallica (in the round was great) I have no desire to see another band from further than 10 feet from the stage, call me a concert snob, but I like small venue's, or being up close.

Most likely I'll get drug into going though, but I've always been a fan of Def Lepard, so I won't complain too much. No desire to see Billy though, I'll either skip his part or go sit in the bar.

I saw Kansas in Indy in '93. They played at a bar called "Lil Bit-O-Texas." People were actually line dancing. It turned me off of the nostalgia of seeing the old bands. The original singer wasnt there, nor the original violin player...

I saw Kansas with Styx at the Coliseum about three years ago and the band was intact once again.
