They have a giant, gawdy apple that comes out of the ground and rises up in the air after a player hits a homerun. We should buy this baby from the Mets, and put it beyond the outfield fence. Whenever a Capper hits a homerun a puff of smoke will lift the giant apple out of the sky.
Very cool idea! I like it a lot. Although, I have to wonder if that will be used in their new stadium?

At the very least, they should do something cool whenever a member of the Apple Dumpling Gang hits a 4 bagger. In Dayton whenever it would happen, the Dragon's eyes on the scoreboard would glow bright red and smoke would come from it's nostrils.

Officials said there were several contest entries related to the Johnny Appleseed theme. There was one person responsible for the TinCap name. That person will receive a prize package that includes 2009 season tickets. The winner will be announced once the team is ready to unveil its new uniforms.

Fans interested in purchasing team gear will have to be patient. Due to licensing issues, merchandise won't be available for another 6 weeks.

Woohoo, bet the winner feels like they've just won the lottery.

"It was a process, it took us awhile to get here. But we’re very happy to have it out there now,” Nutter said. “This was not one of those deals where ahead of time we knew what it was going in. We didn’t.

“… When we got to the national expert, he said nobody has done the apple, which is about as all-American as it gets with our national pastime. Nobody has that logo."

THIS JUST IN: Stevie Wonder is the 'expert' they're referring to.

It remains to be seen if TinCaps is a hit with the fans.

It does?

“We’re having fun with it,” Nutter said. “The name is great, we think the logo is good, it will take people getting used to it, but we believe the experience of what we do and who we are will lead people to continue to think, that’s cool.”

You thought wrong and if it was really good, it wouldn't take ANY "getting used to".

Pat White got a kick out of this article, namely a couple statements that make you wonder where he's getting his info. Just for fun, see if you can figure out which statements those are. Interesting though that Fort Wayne gets mentioned in an article from the Columbus Dispatch.

"Retired weather columnist John Switzer writes a Sunday Metro column."

You think he might want to stick with the weather, better yet in retirement. What a Face

Bingo. And he's a former weather columnist? Here I thought they reported on the weather, not wrote columns about it.
