Funny. I have no doubt Aggie that after next week's game my beloved Bengals will be "Oh and 8" in '08! They'll be halfway to perfection by then. Seriously, I looked at the remaining games this year, and the Bengals really do have a good chance of going 0-16! Their only hope is at the end of the season when they play the Chiefs.Aggie Transplant wrote:Texans host the Bengals this weekend....... could it be win #3 in a row for Kubiak's squad?

Without Carson, this team just plain stinks like the hog farms I grew up around. They're saying he's out for another 2 weeks with a sore elbow, but at this point, just shut him down for the season and don't risk the young man's future.
STEP DOWN MIKE BROWN!

Well, you just took all the fun out of trash talking by agreeing with me. Oh, well. We'll see -- the Texans have managed to pull defeat from the jaws of victory before -- see the Colts' game with them a few weeks ago.

Re: I'm callin' you OUT, Cincy
Yeah, the Texans are basically the South's version of the Bengals...snapping defeat from the jaws of victory...blowing 17 pt leads with 4 minutes left...etc.
If it helps, aside from the Chiefs game, this is about the only other game that is actually winnable by the Bengals b/c the Texans are such a weak team that couldn't find their heads if they weren't attached. It's an organization that when it came time to design a logo, couldn't come up with anything original outside of "Hey, let's design something with Longhorns in it." It's an organization that is nothing more than a minor league feeding ground for more professional teams. It's an organization that probably shouldn't be in Houston since the Oilers skipped town on them a decade+ ago.
Heck, if the Bengals win this one, this might just catapult us on a 9 game winning streak and put us in the playoffs, with QB Ryan Fitzpatrick being named the league MVP. At his acceptance speech, Ryan will say, "You know, looking back, beating the lowly Texans was the springboard for our season. We proved to ourselves that we're winners that day. That organization should probably just fold and move to L.A., (and they can take the disASTROS with them."
(Does that help the trash-talkin'???)

Yea, that's a bummer... I kinda thought we were friends. Why not be a Dallas fan, there's room on the bandwagon now that everyone has jumped Off... the Texans are in our division...

Them's fightin' words, Pez. I DETEST the Cowboys. If there were a little Anthony Perkins "Psycho" icon, I'd put it here.

I can't. I'm busy making my 'Superbowl Champs' shirts. I seem to have lost my one from 1985.pez wrote:Markwes, you are a closet colts fan, just admit it and you can sell the bears gear you have on ebay.... (if anyone will buy it).

The Texans have now won three in a row -- first time in franchise history to have done so (in the same season.) It was the fourth time the Bengals have gone 0-8 in franchise history. Perhaps your words about a winning streak are prophetic, but you were just talking about the wrong side!

Re: I'm callin' you OUT, Cincy
Actually it's the Bengals' 5th time they started 0-8 ('78, '91, '93, '94, '08 ) according to Bengals Beat Writer Chick Ludwig of the Dayton Daily News (that's right his name is Chick, not Chuck).Aggie Transplant wrote:The Texans have now won three in a row -- first time in franchise history to have done so (in the same season.) But hey, after all this losing, who's counting? Congrats on your win!
The good thing is the Bengals drive toward a perfect 0-16 record remains alive! Only thing that can stop us now is the Kansas City Chiefs (or who knows, maybe the Colts ).
Re: I'm callin' you OUT, Cincy
I'm betting the Chiefs break your perfect record. (I say that only because my sis is a Chiefs fan.)
I'm thinkin' playoffs for the Texans.....
btw, why the heck is your mascot a Bengal? Cincy has a great zoo, but you've also got lions and bears. Oh, my.

All kidding aside, here's the reason (from the Bengals website):
In 1937, a team known as the Cincinnati Bengals was formed as a member of the American Football League. The 1937 Bengals finished with a 2-4-2 record in their first year, but the AFL folded after the season. The Bengals continued as an independent team in 1938, and in 1939 joined a new AFL, finishing in second place with a 6-2 record. But again, the league folded after the season.
Once again in 1940, another new AFL emerged, and again the Bengals joined. But that AFL suffered the fate of the two AFLs before it, folding after the 1941 season as the United States entered World World II, and the Bengals folded along with it.
Pro football returned to Cincinnati 26 years later in 1967 when Paul Brown headed an ownership group that landed an expansion franchise in the modern-era American Football League. Brown, a Pro Football Hall of Famer who founded and coached the Cleveland Browns from 1946-62, picked the name Bengals for the new team "to give it a link with past professional football in Cincinnati."
Re: I'm callin' you OUT, Cincy
It still doesn't explain why the "Bengals" name was used in 1937.
I am a HUGE fan of the Cincy zoo. It's better than San Diego's, IMHO.

I'll take your word for the Cincy Zoo being better than San Diego's. I've never been to SD's, but have been to the Cincy Zoo once. Pretty hilly from what I recall (especially pushing around a stroller!).
