I have made beer bread and beer/cheese bread in a bread maker and have just used whatever "cheap" beer I have at home. I don't think you necessarily need to get any kind of expensive beer. Jus my opinion, however.

Bread makers are so easy. When I got the thing I always had some fresh whole wheat bread available. Always used it for a big piece of toast for breakfast. I've lapsed a little on the usage since the summer has started, mostly becuase lately I am watching the amount of food I'm eating. I've made my breakfast a very light meal. Mine came with a recipe book and you basically dump the ingredients into the bowl and turn it on.

I have made some garlic/cheese/oregano breads that have been great with pasta dishes. One tip, if you use whole wheat flour as a substitute for white flour, only replace the white flour at about 1/2 of what the recipe calls for. Example, if the recipe calls for 3 cups of white flour, use 1-1/2 cups whole wheat flour and 1-1/2 cups of white flour. The whole wheat flour is much more dense and doesn't rise as much as the white flour.

This fall and winter I'm sure mine will get a good workout again. It makes the whole house smell amazing.
