Nadal - Grand Slam Winner!
Wait, where's my fellow tennis aficionados? No one has commented yet on Nadal winning a career Grand Slam? Granted, I was rooting for Djokovic as I tend to like underdogs, but this was still a huge accomplishment.
I don't know if it was Nadal playing out of his head, or Djokovic being tired after his five sets with Federer (he made a lot of errors), but it was a fairly one-sided match.
Still, great tennis on Nadal's part.

I loved it loved it... I've never liked novak, but I'm a fan now. He seems like a pretty good guy, despite presenting the first impression that he is a douchebag. I really wanted to see a 5th set, but Nadal would not be denied. Just looking at the two next to each other and you know who would outlast the other. Sure Novak had a five setter against federer, which was one of the two best matches I have ever seen him play (the other being last night).
The tennis god actually smiled on my wife and I. We were on the road when it was originally scheduled so were bummed we couldnt watch it, then it was rained out. The we had a bunch of stuff to do with the kids so we were going to miss it yesterday at 4:00. We finally got the kids to bed and turned it back on just in time to see the first game after the second rain delay.
Classic match... I dont preempt NFL for much, but the best thing going on in the world of sport last night was in Queens... I think he Only needs to win the aussie and he gets the calendar slam?

Pez -- there you are! I thought you were a fellow tennis fan.
I do not think you are correct about the calendar year Grand Slam, since the Australian Open is in January. I think he starts over next year, and would have to win all four to be considered as having won a calendar year Grand Slam.
Djokovic a douchebag? I'm surprised you thought that. I think he's a great guy with a great sense of humor, but I do sometimes think his use of the English language comes across differently than he intends. He also yells at himself, but is self-deprecating while doing so. I would like to see more of him in the future.
Glad you got to watch - it was a great match. But the Federer/Djokovic match was better tennis, I think. I give Djokovic credit for the match against Nadal -- wasn't this the only set Nadal lost in the Open? Not 100% sure about that, but I think that's right. In any case, good for Nadal - the youngest guy ever to have won a career Grand Slam.

Djokovic videos of his prior impersonations (don't think he does these much anymore), but they are spot on.

I saw the Federer-Djokavich match also... Those were the two good ones I was able to catch... We also watched Clijsters demolish zvonareva for the title.

Re: Nadal - Grand Slam Winner!
I didnt think a calendar slam had to be in order... you just have to hold all four titles...
Aussie - Djokavich
French - Nadal
Wimbledon - Nadal
US - Nadal
So if Nadal wins the Aussie next year, he's the only one In recent memory to have the calendar slam (Federer's never done it)... After googling a bit, ISTA will award him a $1M check if he does it, but there are others that dont consider it to be the calendar slam and he would have to win all four titles next year... something only two other men have done, Rod Laver being one...

Re: Nadal - Grand Slam Winner!
I guess the definition of a year Slam depends on who you ask.... article I read this AM on either CNN or SI listed it as being within the same calendar year, but also mentioned that if Nadal wins the Aussie, it would be four Slams in a row. According to Wikipedia, this is called a non-calendar year Slam. (excerpt below)
Calendar year Grand Slam -- hasn't been done since Rod Laver for men's and Graff for women's.

A singles player or doubles team that wins all four Grand Slam tournaments in the same year is said to have achieved the "Grand Slam". If the player or team wins all four consecutively, but not in the same calendar year, it is called a "Non-Calendar Year Grand Slam". Winning all four at some point in a career, even if not consecutively, is referred to as a "Career Grand Slam".
