NFL Free Agency Empty NFL Free Agency

Post  IrishGuy Fri Mar 05, 2010 10:28 am

NFL free agency began last night at midnight. It's amazing. Unfortunately I have to be out of the office all day starting here in a few minutes and I won't be able to follow online. It's turning into quite a chess match. The rules are very different this year with the uncapped salary for next season. Since the Colts are one of the final 4 teams from last year, they can't sign a free agent until they lose one of their own to another team. I'm guessing thats why they chose not to tender Marlin Jackson with even a 5th or 6th round tender. Hopefully someone will snatch him up so it at least opens some avenues for the suits running the program.

It's also interesting that they tendered Melvin Bullet with a 2nd rounder. I wonder if someone would be willing to give up a 2nd for him. I hope not, because I think every NFL team needs at least 3 decent safeties on their roster. However, the draft is very deep at the safety position this year.

It is pretty fascinating... I agree with your assessment on Marlin Jackson... I'm not sure what team is going to snap him up. I think it's likely that we will resign him after free agency, and we will resign him On the cheap. Kinda sucks for the guy that intercepted Brady and took us to the superbowl, but sentiment only gets lip service in the NFL.

I want to keep bullitt also, he's got a ton of potential at safety, and I know you are a huge fan, but even you have to admit that Bob is an unknown quantity at this point... It's a contract year for Bob also. I wouldnt mind taking a safety in the 3rd, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

I said on the other board I wanted to see us pick up Maurkice Pouncey, and see if he can give Lilja a run for his job, then eventually groom Him as a center... Sat doesnt have too many years left.

NFL Free Agency Empty Re: NFL Free Agency

I will personally do several backflips in the office if I hear/read the following:

"The Bengals have called a 1pm press conference to announce they have made a trade with the Denver Broncos for wide receiver Brandon Marshall. Marshall's plane is en route and is scheduled to land at 12:20 at the Greater Cincinnati International Airport..."

Marshall is the most intriguing player out there. From what I heard yesterday, all it will really take to get him is a 1st rounder. The Bengals pick 21st. They DESPERATELY need a WR and Marshall would be a welcome addition to this offense. Just imagine teams trying to cover Ochocinco and Marshall. The Bengals did release Lav. Coles, who essentially should've retired about 2 years ago.

Marshall is a very intriguing option for the Bengals, It would be interesting also to see Cincy go after Julius Peppers... I'm Not sure where they are in depth at DE...

I think Cincy should go after Marshall, and try to pick up another WR in the draft also... After peeking at the Bengals site and taking the obligatory shower afterward, Indy might want to take a peek at Tank Johnson if we lose one of our UFAs...

Tank did alright for the Bengals last year until he got hurt. Never heard of any problems with him...

Looks like the Bears are getting Julius Peppers, hopefully that will payoff for the Bears. He seemed to be an on off player in Carolina.

Looks like the Bears also picked up Chester Taylor from the Vikings. Kind of hoping they would have went back after Jones since the Jets cut him.

Not sure why they think they need another TE, but got one of them also in Brandon Manumaleuna. Oh well it will be fun listening to the people in Chicago try to say his name.

But no receivers??? They should be in the hunt for Marshall, not Cincy.

And the Saints are doing?????
So far just resigned Reggie Bush,

The Bears picked up Manu....? because is he is a big, blocking style TE. Martz wants this type of player in his system. Olsen is giong to end up being trade bait. He is turning into a really good receiving TE.

I don't think Bob is in a contract year. After next season, the way his contract is structured it would be easier for the Colts to release him then rather than now.

I understand needing a blocking TE. I can't think of them getting rid of Olsen though. They need someone for Cutler to throw the ball to. Now since Jake Delhomne has been cut by the Panthers wouldn't mind seeing him come to be the backup to Cutler.

You're probably right. I'd still LOVE to see the Bengals trade for Brandon Marshall though. I don't know if that'll happen though.

Regardless, IF I were the GM/Coach, I'd draft a WR in the 1st round and give Palmer another much-needed weapon to throw to.

I thought Palmer had a great quote the other day about TO...saying something to the effect that if any QB in the league is used to a WR that speaks his mind, it's him. Don't know how Palmer would like having two though!

At the end of the day, I look at it like this...if TO is going to make you a better team, then go ahead and sign him.
