Toyota president won't attend U.S. Congress hearing
Thoughts? just curious
Story here
Tokyo, Japan (CNN) -- Toyota President Akio Toyoda said Wednesday he has no plans to appear before a U.S. Congressional committee next week.
His comments came during a news conference where Toyoda addressed reporters for the third time in two weeks about the massive global recall.
Toyoda said Toyota North America chief executive Yoshi Inaba will represent the company at a planned February 24 hearing before the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
At the news conference, the company president detailed how Toyota will employ new quality control officers, conduct testing and will consult an independent research agency to fix their vehicle problems.

Re: Toyota president won't attend U.S. Congress hearing
I don't really have a problem with this. It isn't like Toyota is ignoring the congress, he is sending the head of Toyota North American Division. I don't remember the CEO of Ford or Firestone being called in front of Congress during the late 90's for their recall with more people dying.
I also think it is this congress meddling more in business than previous congresses, along with the government having a vested interest in some American automakers. What congress doesn't understand is Toyota has over 36,000 america employees (this doesn't include dealership employees). This also doesn't include other American companies that supply Toyota (like the manufacturer in Elkhart, IN that makes the gas pedal assembly).

There's a big difference between saying "something should be done" and actually doing something.
