Jobs Report

Replacing the more than eight million jobs lost since the recession started likely will take much of the next decade. The economy needs to create at least 100,000 jobs a month just to keep the unemployment rate flat, due to population growth. Because of the downturn, millions of Americans quit searching for work or dropped out of the labor force. A broader measure of unemployment, which includes people who stopped looking for work and those settling for part-time jobs, rose to 16.9% in March

Good morning and Happy Easter to everyone. You know, many on the right wing fringe tend to have selective memory issues and always want to rewrite history. Trickle down and deregulation (republican core beliefs) led to the The Great Depression II.

I wouldnt consider it rosy by any stretch, but I will take good news when I can get it, and on the whole, the most recent jobs report was better than expected. I do find it interesting that conservatives seem to be the only one expecting the recovery to take an unrealistically short time. 8 million jobs is a vast amount, and we are losing less and less.

The economy is recovering, and recovering slowly. Wether there are 48,000 or 100,000 census jobs is still an insignificant number of those that are unemployed. 8 million is roughly the population of Chicago.

My retirement account was off 38% at the worst of times, it's now off 1.73%...

The Labor Department said Thursday that first-time claims increased by 18,000 in the week ending April 3, to a seasonally adjusted 460,000. That's worse than economists' estimates of a drop to 435,000, according to a survey by Thomson Reuters.

STATEMENT BY REV. CLEAVER: Many of the members of the CBC like John Lewis and Cleaver who worked in the civil rights movement, and Mr. Frank who has struggled in the cause of equality, this is not the first time they have been spit on before during turbulent times.

This afternoon, the Congressman was walking into the capitol to vote, when one protester spat on him. The Congressman would like to thank the capitol police officer who quickly escorted the other members and him into the capitol, and defused the tense situation with professionalism and care. After all the Members where safe, a full report was taken and the matter was handled by the capitol police. The man who spat on the Congressman was arrested, but the Congressman has chosen not to press charges. This is not the first time the Congressman has been called the “n” word and certainly not the worst assault he has endured in his years fighting for equal rights for all Americans. That being said, he is disappointed that in the 21st century our national discourse has devolved to the point of name calling and spitting. He looks forward to taking a historic vote on health care reform legislation tomorrow, for the residents of the Fifth District of Missouri and for all Americans. He believes deeply that tomorrow’s vote is, in fact, a vote for equality and to secure health care as a right for all. Our nation has a history of struggling each time we expand rights. Today’s protest are no different, but the Congressman believes it is worth fighting for.

So I have no idea what you are talking about when you say people are getting bent about rumors. If you are getting your news from the freerepublic blog you might draw the conclusion that he wont confirm it... I notice they are now saying his office issued the statement and not Emanuel himself... wtf is happening in this country when everyone becomes bman on one of his more frothy days... seriously... I cant believe anyone would defend these peoples activities. To what end are you trying to deny this incident took place, what do you propose to gain?

And no one in the main is saying we are moving along at a fast clip and that this recovery is gangbusters... there are positive signs, sure, there are troubling signs, sure. But this business where conservative politicos want to construe that into "the democrats saying everything is rosey posey" is crap. No one is saying that. You are reading far right propaganda and spewing it here as your own research.

Cmon man, a statement by some Rev? Since you BELIEVE he was called the n-word, why has no one come forward on tv to authenticate it. Since this is a copy/paste from some print media doesn't help the cause. Furthermore, no one has said that I am defending any action like this. I am defending the blatant attempt from the left to discredit ANYONE who disagrees with the current admin and its policies as racist. The left has now begun to call every black tea-party supporter an uncle tom sellout. Surrounded by police as he walked into the Capitol, but once again no confirmation from those police officers.
