Tigers pitcher almost tosses Perfect Game
Anybody else catch this story? 1 out away from a perfect game (no hits, nobody reaches base, no errros) and it gets ruined when the 1st base umpire blows the call, calling the runner safe at first when he was clearly out.
It's a shame. Thought the Tiger's pitcher handled himself well by not saying anything on the field. Classy. The ump even apologized to the pitcher after the game after he watched the replay and realized he blew the call.
Still, I wonder if this will lead to Instant Replay in baseball? I hope not, personally. I just think it would slow down an already slow game.
I guess what they say is true...nobody's perfect.

The umpire was very classy after seeing a replay of the play. He went to the locker room, called the pitcher into the hallway and apologized, nearly in tears and shook his hand and gave him a hug. It's good to see that some people can err and stand up and admit and take it like a man. Being an amateur umpire myself, I know first hand that mistakes can happen.

Didn't watch the game, but obviously since the story is all the rage today...everyone's heard/seen it by now. Yep, the game of baseball is a time consuming one, but I for one don't believe that should be ANY factor in the decision of instant replay. This is a prime example of why it should be a part of MLB.

Yes to replay. Especially on foul balls, home runs. For other plays (like the one last night) do it like football, only get so many a game.

As a Cubs fan, this reminds me of the Milt Pappas near perfect game. Thirty plus years later, he is still PO'd about the ball 4 count with 2 outs in the 9th.
