an 18 year old is suing Texas for not letting him carry a weapon for what he calls "protection while shopping in certain parts of town."

Granted he's in Texas, so he can own a gun, probably even a machine gun, and enough bullets to fill the east storage room of his bunker, but he cant carry a weapon on his Person, so he's suing. More precisely, the NRA is suing.

Really?

Seems like it all comes down to state law (I can't say that without sounding like Donnie Baker). I have to admit I don't know Texas gun laws, so I looked it up. If the source I found is accurate (ironically, the NRA's site), you have to be 21 to get a license to carry. So I would say you are correct in that there are no grounds to sue. Maybe he can shop in the good parts of town.

I agree... he's suing because he feels that such a law (21 years old) is infringing on his constitutional rights....

A real irony here is that the NRA and the ACLU really arent all that different in this case... except for the fast moving projectiles bit...

If we consider 18 year olds adults then they should be able to do all things legal adults do, otherwise change to law to make the legal age of adulthood be higher.

So yeah if he can legally own a gun then he should be able to have a permit to carry.

I'm not sure I agree... Visualizing a high school senior carrying a gun and a bottle of whiskey to school...

Interesting topic. Although I'm sure you have your tongue in your cheek on that last statement...I highly doubt ANYBODY except a police officer would be able to carry a gun onto school grounds.

What I find disturbing is that at 18, you can join the military, go to some far off country, shoot and kill an enemy, but when you come back...God forbid you should have a beer.

I believe most states have laws against guns on school grounds. Of course that law is working real well (hello Virginia Tech, Hello Columbine...etc. )

But don't worry Obama & the dems are trying to keep us children as long as possible....just look at Obama care you are now a kid till you are 26!!!!!
