Palin's use of 'blood libel'

Post  Pez on Thu Jan 13, 2011 1:17 pm

ok... everyone knows that my opinion of Palin is that she is a complete nincompoop, but that aside...

What does everyone think Palin's intent is to use the phrase 'blood libel' in response to those that finger her as responsible for the partisan rhetoric that inspired the AZ killings? Palin is right... she is in no way responsible for any of the events in AZ, nor is Fox News, Glenn Beck, or the Washington Post... So Palin is putting forth a valid argument, but chooses to use the incredibly offensive term. Why?

The term is hundreds of years old, and refers to the false stories circulated in Europe to incite anti-semitism. The "Libel" is that Jews use the blood of Christian children in certain religious ceremonies. They kidnap the children, torture them and then crucify them, catching their blood in ceremonial vessels etc etc...

I refuse to believe that she was not aware of the meaning of the term. Is Palin really comparing her plight to the centuries old persecution of European Jews? She was presenting an accurate assessment of the situation that most rational people believe, so why would she choose a term that has very likely alienated every Jewish voter in America?

Good question. No idea why she would choose to use that term. I try not to figure women out in general. Laughing

Pez, I agree with you that this was just a nut case doing the shooting in AZ and any of the commentators or politicians on either side was the cause of this shooting is complete BS. Now whether or not "blood libel" should have been used I don't know. From what I understand a political columnist used it in one of his opinion pieces before Palin's response.

Rather or not Palin has been blood libel, I definitely believe she has been persecuted by the left in the media and politicians. I mean last night on NBC they made the comment she was reading her statement off a teleprompter. Hello the messiah obama takes one of those with him everywhere. And when he doesn't use one he sounds just as dumb as Palin does.

Now the good news in my opinion is of her using this word (whether correct or not) it might just get her off thinking of running for national office again. Hey I would have preferred McCain picking Liberman over Palin, and majority of people never knowing about her.

I had never heard that term before. But yeah, she probably should not have used it if she knew the history of it, and definitely should not have used it if she had no idea what it means.
