Language matters in minds of children

In the wake of the horror in Arizona, I’d like to say a few things to Sarah Palin. Go home, hug your kids and tell them you love them. The same to all the other politicos out there. I cannot imagine how frightened your family must be.

A 9-year-old girl named Christina was murdered. She only wanted to learn about our government. If she stood in front of you today and said: “Ms. Palin, tell me how our government works?,” what words would you use to explain? Lock and load? Kill them all and let God sort them out? My political opponent is my enemy, and I have to target them?

It’s not just about your kids, Ms. Palin. It’s about all the other American kids too. Before you jump on the Internet to rally the faithful, pretend just for a moment that Christina is there with you. Please, show her the best our government has to offer and not the worst. Remember: Christina is watching.

Where was this lady's outrage when the lefties had posters with a gun site over Bush. Where was her outrage when dailykos had a similar map up with "target" over this same district because she was a moderate?

Pez, are you being sarcastic? As much as you don't like Palin, surely you aren't blaming her in any way for this tragedy?

I don't blame Palin (100%) for this, but who the heck puts gun sites, in this day and age, on anyone? Left OR right? There are enough whack jobs out there that people should put more thought into the symbolism they use.

No, I don't blame Palin for anything, neither did the letter writer. Did you read it?

Because I have half a brain. The writer is indicating that even through Palin is blameless, if the now dead girl stood in front pf Sarah Palin, would she use those words again? I cant understand how it seems like every person in this country has to feel persecuted.

Neither did the letter writer? I guess she didn't use the word "blame" if that's what you mean. Then let me ask why single out Palin? Other than throwing in "other politicos" in her letter, politicians on both sides have been using similar references for years. I'm pretty sure 9 year old kids don't stay glued to the news to see what former governors are saying. On the other hand, they might turn on the TV and watch real violence.

Palin singled herself out by the blood libel speech. The writer reflects my opinion that while no single politician or pundit is responsible for what happened in AZ, step back and take stock of what we are teaching which unnecessary and incendiary language.

Let's remember who politicized this tragedy please? It was the liberal sheriff down there who blamed Rush, Beck and other right-wingers. The letter writer conveniently left that out. Take off the sideblinders!

Rush, Beck and other right wingers made their bed. I'm not sure its any sort of persecution if we ask them to lie in it.

Take Palin's gun sights... No it did not spur Jared Lougner to shoot anyone, however do you think Palin will use that imagery again? If not, why not?

Let's hope they are listening but not hearing.

I quiz them after to make sure they have fully comprehended the liberal truth. When NPR does present something in a balanced way I change the station to Bob & Tom.
