NBA Finals

Post  Cincy Fan 44 on Fri Jun 06, 2008 2:01 pm

Anybody else watching it? I caught the first game last night. I admit it, the biggest reason I'm watching is the whole Lakers/Celtics "Classic" matchup thing. If it was anybody else, I probably would've watched something else.

What's sad is aside from Kobe and Garnett, I can't name anybody else on the teams. Now, if you go back to '87 when these teams played each other in the Finals, I could probably name at least 5 players off the top of my balding head who played (Bird, Kareem, Magic, McHale, James Worthy)...

Basketball should have been over a month ago, imo.

The same with the hockey final, even though I enjoy both.

I'm still waiting for Reggie to make his comeback before I start watching again. Wink

You don't know anyone on the Celtics? Have you not watched SportsCenter for the past 6 months? They have the "Big 3", KG, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce.. Rajon Rondo is playing very well, and then they have some other person for their fifth. That's about all I know.

I've heard of most of the Lakers players, just couldn't tell you who starts other than Odom, Bryant and Gasul.

I want to see Kobe get beat... Good start for the Celtics...

Yeah, believe it or not, I don't. Ray Allen? Paul Pierce? Might as well have been a couple of guys you graduated High School with. Don't recognize their names. But I'm not much of a basketball fan whatsoever.

And yes, I've watched SC, just not that much of late. Usually after spending 2 to 3 hours watching a Reds game, I like to see what other non-sports related stuff is on. I know, I know...priorities. Laughing

I can name the same players as Card and that's it. I don't hold much interest in it either, though I'm rooting for the Celtics just because the eastern conference has been so trashed in the past several years. I read that the trade that brought Gasol to the Lakers is being heavily scrutinized by other coaches and owners in the league. Memphis really didn't get much of anything for him and pulled the trigger awfully quick on the deal.

Ray Allen (UConn) is one of the few NBA players who can probably name the cities and states of all the NBA teams.. he's a good guy. Paul Pierce (Kansas) to me looks like a fat kid who I can't believe is still running up and down the court, but by all accounts is a good guy as well. Plus he was stabbed in the face, neck and back a couple years after he entered the NBA at a night club and came back from it, so he's pretty tough.

I'm watching the halftime show right now, and seeing Stuart Scott report on the dirty referee. Story aside, what's up with Stuart's eyebrows? They don't look natural at all. Anyboody know?

I think he had eye surgery a couple of years ago. One eye may be prosthetic.

From wiki...

Scott had a couple of cornea transplants when he was younger. But, in 2002, Scott had been invited to join in the New York Jets pre-season training camp by head coach Herm Edwards. Scott was filming a story about football minicamps for ESPN. He was struck in the left eye by a football that was launched from a Jets football passing machine during receiver drills. He had to undergo corneal surgery that same evening and was out of work for a couple months. He now wears thicker glasses and has the teleprompter moved closer.

I haven't cared for these Finals enough to do more than check the score while I am looking at baseball scores. But game 4 was definitely the highlight even though I didn't see it. The last I knew according to the website I was on, the Lakers were "cruising" and built the biggest 1st quarter lead ever in a Finals game. Then I hear this morning that the Celtics won. Classic!

Same thing with the World Series. At least basketball has a clock that you can somewhat judge how long it will be. In baseball, if you get a pitcher who dilly dallies around on the mound or a team in which every other batter steps out of the plate and adjust his glove, batting helmet, cup, spits, looks at his bat, and then steps back in...it's gonna be a looooooooong game.
