Worst Cities To Be A Sports Fan (Pro)

I really thought Cincinnati would have been closer to being #1 on the list. Futility (except for 1 year) of the Bengals since 1990...and no winning seasons for the Reds since 2000. Citizens there were promised winning teams if the taxpayers approved new stadiums. How's that working out? I was shocked to see Indianapolis at #3!?!?!?!

Yeah, this story doesn't make much sense to me. I guess they are going by last year only (zero championships for Indy)? Cincinnati actually surprised me because I thought they were among the cheaper ticket prices.Cincy Fan 44 wrote:http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ys-forbesbadcities082008&prov=yhoo&type=lgns

Reds tickets used to be the cheapest back in the Marge days, but that went away when she did (1999). She always took pride in that fact. It was great for the average fan, but unfortunately it was at the expense of other areas. She infamously said, "Why do we need scouts? All they do is watch baseball games." I haven't been down to GABP for a year, but the last I remember beer was over $6, hot dogs were $3, and tickets were outrageous.Markwes wrote:Cincinnati actually surprised me because I thought they were among the cheaper ticket prices.
The Indy thing still puzzles me. Must have been written by a Patriot fan?

I definitely can see Miami and San Diego in forefront. Surprised KC isn't a little higher and seeing Pittsburgh in there surprises me.

Beers at the new Colts stadium are $7.00 each. Makes you just want to pack in that many more while tailgating before going in the place.

I believe those rankings were based partially on success but also on how ticket prices compared to income. So while Indy is cheap for tickets, it's even cheaper to live there, making tickets harder to buy in relation to your income. Pretty stupid way to make a top 10 list if you ask me.
Indy should be one of the best cities, recent NFL Champ, a good AAA baseball team with what is considered one of the best ballparks and only recently have the Pacers stunk it up, but they still have a cool arena. Cheap to live there and go to games, which should be considered a plus, not a negative.

We were in Cincy 2 or 3 seasons ago and according to one of the diehard Cincy fans that we were talking to, he pays $5.00 for a Standing Room Only ticket at the gate for ALL home games. That's a pretty damn good deal, if you ask me.

Yeah, that's not bad. I see that the bleacher seats are $7 too, which is still decent, but then it goes up considerably from there. Plus, you gotta love (NOT!) how they add a $5 charge on for "Select" games (like when the Cubs, or Indians, or Red Sox come to town). I know other teams do this too, but that just adds insult to injury. They don't lower prices when non-premium teams like the Pirates come in. Heck, with the state of the Reds now, I would think ownership would lower ticket prices all around in an effort to get more fannies in the seats. What's worse...an empty seat that you won't budge on the $30 for, or a seat that is sold for half-price with a person sitting in it that will probably buy food, drinks, parking, and maybe a souvenier?Fleek wrote:We were in Cincy 2 or 3 seasons ago and according to one of the diehard Cincy fans that we were talking to, he pays $5.00 for a Standing Room Only ticket at the gate for ALL home games.
