I like Sarah Palin BUT...
A container for all the direct, and lightly tangential reasons Sarah Palin causes you concern if given the VP office...
Me: A maverick Pres, a maverick VP from a low pop. maverick state. Potential to be an disingenuous supporter of evangelical ideals. Inexperienced to a greater degree than her contemporaries given the sphere and arena she's being considered for.... across the board much less experience in matters of Economy, Foreign Policy, and 98% of the rest of the regional concerns in mainstream America.
She's a poster child for the 'independent working mother' with five children who are all 18 years old or younger. One will be getting his "grow up" from the military, the next by becoming a teenage mother. Even with two out of the house, the latter three will still require a Mother in their house. IMO, this is a lot of 'irons in the fire' for someone who chose to be a mother, and still has a job to do with the youngins who are still in the tent. To me, this spells HUGE PRIORITY CONFLICT for a vast majority of American middle class mothers.

Nice sexist remarks there, right on par with the media.

Re: I like Sarah Palin BUT...
being mayor of Wasilla, ok ... being the EXECUTIVE of Wasilla does not qualify her for VP. I also disagree wholeheartedly with her "God's war" speech, and her stand on social issues (stem cell research, abortion, gay rights, prayer in school etc...). People like Doe and FeatherHead like her for a reason people.

Re: I like Sarah Palin BUT...
Not too crazy about her pro life stance....not a deal breaker. Wishes she had some outside business experience (like running a business)...but then not a deal breaker.
Re: I like Sarah Palin BUT...
She's a ham-fisted ploy to get Hillary voters to swing to McCain's side. Id like to say she's not qualified, but then again, the VP doesnt do a whole lot more than what might be expected of a PTA chair, so....
Plus I thin McCain's hamfistedness will bit him in the arse and result in an Obama landslide, so there is not conflict of interest, except for the mercifully two short months that we have left before she slips back "into the wild"

Do you have kids Scooby? The things I said were not remotely aimed at being sexist, they suggest that a woman just doesn't "happen" go get pregnant, it's a choice, and not to be taken lightly... especially if one wants to run for office with the "Hockey Mom" moniker on her bumper sticker. "Mom" isn't a 4 year post.

She should follow Biden's example and stay home to tend to family. Oh wait.
"I got elected when I was 29, and I got elected November the 7th. And on December 18 of that year, my wife and three kids were Christmas shopping for a Christmas tree. A tractor-trailer, a guy who allegedly - and I never pursued it - drank his lunch instead of eating his lunch, broadsided my family and killed my wife instantly, and killed my daughter instantly, and hospitalized my two sons, with what were thought to be at the time permanent, fundamental injuries."
Except there was no drinking. There was not even speeding. The truck's brakes checked out, as well. It was not the driver's fault.
Biden quickly abandoned the drunk driving claim when he was called out on it. "All I said was what I heard at the time. What I heard from folks at the time is he'd been drinking," Biden said, sounding agitated. "I don't want to talk about it. . . . She must have pulled out. . . . It's still painful to talk about 35 years later."
Imagine the pain of the innocent truck driver's family that he was being falsely accused by a U.S. senator and presidential candidate of getting drunk and slamming into Biden's wife car, killing her and his daughter?

Just like my previous post directed at Scooby, the media is pointing out a gap between the responsibilites she takes on vs. the resources she has to execute them. Pretty basic, not sexist at all.
She's running for VP, not her husband. Try digging up something from the Media on Michelle...

Not even tangentially related to the topic at hand... Did YOU drink your lunch today?
What does this have to do with Sarah Palin, or being a parent? What a tragedy that his wife and daughter were killed.

Considering she could be made president when McCunt dies, it's a scary thought. Creationist, Pro-Life, Evangelical... I can't vote for someone that believes in Creationism. And within the presidency, she's just a toy. She's going to tell us what the party wants, just like Bush. She'll be a pretty little puppet.

nope. just pointing out you're a misogynist.... Biden didn't stay home to tend to his two infant sons yet Palin is supposed to give up her career because she has children???? She also has a husband at home to help raise the family. Biden continued is career as a single parent no less. How is this not related to your first and subsequent posts? Can we get a ruling from a referee?
Oh, now we're name calling! You're just an idiot! She's a VP candidate, her sex is not the issue... her status as MOTHER is an issue, to some. Should I still handle her with kid gloves, as if SHE were still wearing diapers?
You should have made the Biden comment about infant sons... would have taken you less time to type and then you would have gotten your point across. You don't get it do ya? She made the choice to be a mother FIRST, and by your account of the Biden history, the accident happened a month or so after he was elected.
What you got about her Hubby? Share... and I will ask... Please, in another thread.

So she can't do the job because she's a mom.. but a man can... and that's not sexist how?
I'm curious.. Bill Clinton was a Governor.. how did he have experience in the economy, foreign policy or 99% of the rest of the regional concerns of mainstream America?
And ask she said.. what exactly does the VP do?

Or are you suggesting that Biden chose to be a politician and was forced to be a dad, or that he wasn't a parent at all?
Also, I don't know any mothers who actively choose to be one thing or another first.. all the moms I know are a mother, a provider, an employee, and many other things all at once. There is no order to them. In all honesty, I'd say your thinking is firmly placing you back in the 50's... actually.. I'd say your thinking is right in line with Dope who will probably suggest that her daughter is pregnant because she insisted on getting a job in a man's world instead of doing her female duties at home.
Now.. if YOU feel that way.. you're sexist, no debate to it. If you are simply pointing out that OTHERS might feel this way.. well.. you broke the rule of the thread being what YOU think about her.. not others.

The only thing I can remember from Government Class about the VP's job, other than being the next in line, is to be president of the Senate. Just sayin'.cardinal5150 wrote:And ask she said.. what exactly does the VP do?

Where have I said that? Please quote where I said "she can't do the job because she's a mother" or "a man could do it"? READ.
She had already chosen the job as MOTHER, a quality she touts herself, as a measure of the experience she'll use in the VP position. If she shirks the regular duties as "mother" to serve in a "more important" position, what does that say to other "mothers" who feel the title of mother is just as good as the title of "Governor"?
I'm not asserting the notion that because she's a WOMAN, she's shirking a duty... MOTHER is a special kind of woman, especially to her children.
Y'all just keep charging those blasters... "These droids are not the misogynist you're looking for"

Geez I thought it took both parents to raise a family. That dads were just as important as moms? So maybe no one should hold office or a job if they have children at home.
I find it hypocritical that Obama's mom could hold a job and raise a son by herself yet a two parent family can't have someone work outside the home? Please tell me you got more than that!!
Re: I like Sarah Palin BUT...
Bring on the daddy discussion then...
Biden was a parent first, then elected, then tragically his wife and daughter are killed... should he have shirked his duty to those who elected him, or deal with that tough situation as best he could? That's a tough call.
... wouldn't it just be easier to pick apart his voting record?
