Wierdest thing I've ever eaten...
Tuesday I made Vietnamese Summer Rolls...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summer_roll
I think I'll try them once more, and try to get a good recipe for the sauce... the main ingredient. If I don't like them then I'll abandon them for the fried variety.
The rice paper you roll them in is an odd consistency, definitely acquired taste.

I looooove those things, especially with the proper sauce. There's a place in Lafayette called House of Saigon that makes great ones.

I love the tactile feel the cool stretchy rice paper wrapper has, especially compared to it's crispy fried counterpart. When you bite into it, the wrapper stretches in the most interesting way... almost making a little sack for the bite.

It is a weird texture for sure. They're sooo good. I think next time I'm in Lafyayette I'm gonna get some.

By the way Meta, I expect a full apology for misspelling "Weirdest" in your title. Shame on you!

Re: Wierdest thing I've ever eaten...
I think I mentioned this before, but "blood sausage" while I was in Europe still lingers in my memory. It actually was not bad, but I couldn't continue eating it nonetheless. It just had all kinds of things mixed in that came from different parts of the animal, not sure which parts though.

The only calamari I have eaten has been battered, deepfried and smothered in bba sauce.

I liked Sea Urchin, if it's fresh and prepared properly. Never liked squid, or octo, haven't tried the rest.

Yes, The GuestHouse used to serve wonderful escargots with a wonderful butter sauce and light pastries.
Spring Rolls are awesome and the only place in Fort Wayne I am aware of that you can get them is Shangi on S. Calhoun. Awesome eggdrop soup as well.

I've tasted a lot of weird stuff.
Aligator, bull's balls, cow's tongue, tripe and yes Pez, I've eaten escargots, it was smothered in cheese and baked.
Markwes, were you talking about black pudding or blood pudding they call it in some places. I've never had it though. We get that at some west indian restaurants, some of the guys here love it.

I've seen blood pudding made. My in-laws used to butcher hogs and this town boy got roped into it for a few years. All in all, it's fun, except for the blood pudding part.
