Alaska state jet didn't fly on eBay

Since being named as Sen. McCain's running mate, Gov. Palin has mentioned several times that she put a government plane up for sale on EBay — including during her speech before the GOP convention.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin bolstered her fiscal-conservative credentials early in her term by putting her predecessor's state jet up for auction online.

"That luxury jet was over the top," she told Republican National Convention delegates when she accepted the party's vice presidential nomination Wednesday night. "I put it on eBay."

Since Palin was chosen as Arizona Sen. John McCain's running mate last week, the story has become a cornerstone of the Republican effort to paint Palin as a reformer who took on her own party establishment.

"How many saw her speech a couple of nights ago? Wasn't it fabulous?" McCain said Friday during a campaign stop in Cedarburg, Wisconsin. "You know what I enjoyed the most? She took the luxury jet that was purchased by her predecessor and sold it on eBay — and made a profit."

But it turns out the twin-engine Westwind II was a tough sell on the Web — and the state eventually pulled it offline and sold it through an ordinary brick-and-mortar brokerage, for a loss, a spokeswoman said Friday.

"Governor Palin has been correct in saying that she put the plane on eBay," McCain campaign spokeswoman Maria Comella told CNN. "They did end up selling it for $2.1 million. but not on eBay."

Palin's predecessor, Frank Murkowski, bought the jet for $2.7 million in 2005. The following year, Palin unseated Murkowski in the state's Republican primary and became governor: Upon taking office, she wanted to unload what former aide Meg Stapleton called "a symbol of corruption."

Stapleton told CNN that Murkowski paid too much for the jet, and that it was costing taxpayers money just sitting in the hangar.

"Eventually you had to concede and say, 'How often are we going to pay these bills and waste more state dollars?' " she said.

When putting it on eBay failed, aircraft broker Rob Heckmann was called in to sell the jet. Businessman Larry Reynolds bought the five-passenger jet for sold for $2.1 million. And Reynolds is now seeking another $50,000 from the state for unexpected maintenance issues with the aircraft.

hmmmmm..saw this the other day and in a re-read i gotta wonder what is the difference between "categorically false" and just plain old "false"? is catagorically false the kind of false edwards shouted when "rumors and outright lies" regarding his having had an affair? like in mr bill never having sexual relations with that woman? like when teddy haggard shouted it was a set-up and his gay activities never happend? is it like when someone doth protest too much? the campaign is considering legal action...then why havent they started it yet? hoping to quelch all the evidence before it can be scrutenized by us the vetters?? yeah it might be no-facts trash..but it will be interesting LOL..cant learn anything from sarah--NO MEDIA ACCESS so i will take whatever is reported, check the story, and form my own opinion on it all.

i read on alaskas mudflats blog that there had been one guy/hubby business partner, she had been thought to be having an affair with but it was debunked when todd asked her and she said they were just friends. but there is another guy who there was similar local speculation about a married guy who got a divorce about the time the rumors and speculation about him and sarah were heavy. this guy went to the courthouse quite recently and requested his divorce documents be sealed..the court declined to do so. names were given..if there is any truth to it i am sure the enquirer will find it! i am very sure they will only post when they can back it up because they arent about to lose a lawsuit on this one!


McCain campaign calls Palin affair 'vicious lie.'

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — John McCain's campaign is denying a tabloid report that vice president candidate Sarah Palin had an extramarital affair. "It's a vicious lie," spokesman Steve Schmidt said.

The campaign is considering legal action, the senior adviser added.

The National Enquirer wrote in its edition dated Sept. 15 that Palin had an affair with a business associate of her husband, Todd Palin. He discovered the infidelity and dissolved the business, the article said. It attributed the allegation only to "an enemy" of the Alaska governor.

"The smearing of the Palin family must end," Schmidt said in a statement released Wednesday. "The allegations contained on the cover of the National Enquirer insinuating that Gov. Palin had an extramarital affair are categorically false."

Rick Steiner, (University of Alaska Marine Advisory professor, and environmental superhero) through a public records request, has acquired an email that the Palin administration didn’t want you to see. Basically, it says that yes, the Alaska state biologists DID agree with the Federal assessment leading to their listing (begrudgingly) of the polar bear as ‘threatened’ under the Endangered Species Act. They agreed with this despite the Palin administration’s vehement opposition to the listing, and in direct conflict with Palin’s statement that the state biologists found nothing to support the ‘threatened’ listing… Innnnteresting…

Cover-up, or just plain denial? It reminds me of that classic Seinfeld line. I believe it was George Costanza who said, “It isn’t a lie if YOU believe it.” And Sarah just keeps on believin’….so much so that she’s actually going to sue the government. Yes, that’s right. If you can’t handle the truth, just litigate it to death.

And despite Palin’s recent veto of $268 million dollars from the state budget, axing things like safety improvements at Klatt Elementary School, money for fire stations, road improvements, emergency services, etc., guess what survived the ruthless red pen? $2 million to get a bunch of people in a room to talk about how scientists are “of differing opinions” about whether the melting of the polar ice cap will indeed affect the polar bears. Perhaps, we can make this an annual tradition. Next year I propose holding a summit to discuss whether putting a large flame under a pot of crab will result in dinner. We can’t really be sure you know. That’s like trying to ‘project into the future’. I mean, what are we - cooks or fortune tellers for crying out loud?

And who’s paying for this $2,000,000 Flat Earth Society Conference? You and me. If someone handed you a $2 million check to spend on the state, where would you spend it? I doubt many of us would put our money toward rehashing this issue that even the ‘petrol-philes” in the Federal Government can’t deny, lest they look like idiots.

But not us…we’ve got a state government that either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that they’re making us look like idiots. Again.

In the meantime, the polar bear above is one Alaskan bear that is blissfully ignorant of all this….he’s in the Alaska Zoo. Regardless of the outcome of Sarah’s lawsuit, this may be the only place to see one in Alaska by 2050.

I had the Enquirer wrong when we the story about Edwards meeting with Rielle. I'm leaning toward giving this story a little creedence for a few weeks. If it sticks, or if it doesn't, I don't really care. I'm not surprised.

Ok, we get it now... she's "normal" in this regard. She'll bring the Desperate Housewives vote if the story about Todd Hanson is true. An unintentional side effect might be to keep the spotlight on her and make her seem like a media victim.

Yes, I'm hypocritical. I don't call someone a liberal if they don't worship McCain. I don't call Cincy a left winger if he questions one thing about McCain. Go see a psychiatrist quickly.

Some interesting facts about Palin's religion:

1) Her old church (Assembly of God) believed that by voting for John Kerry in 2004 you would lose your salvation. HUH? REALLY?

2) Her new church believes that God ordered terrorist attacks on Israel for not believing. quote from the article here.

3) Palin's new church is hosting a Gay Conversion in the next few weeks ... Nice.

That's right.. the guy who's being investigated right now.. Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska.... the same Senator who Palin went against and has publicly made it known that she believes he should resign and face the music.

Last I checked the Governor of Alaska can't tell Indiana to send her money, but the Congressmen of Alaska can send money to Alaska from the Fed. So good job in showing how she's trying to get the crooks out of office.
