CNN: Sarah Palin Has Never Seen Russia From Alaska
Just when you thought the whole "I can see Russia from Alaska" thing couldn't get any funnier...CNN's Gary Tuchman delivers the goods: it turns out that Sarah Palin has never seen Russia from Alaska.
Tuchman went up to the part of Alaska from which you can actually see Russia, a remote island called Little Diomede located just 2.4 miles from its Russian twin, Big Diomede.
It turns out Gary Tuchman's trip to Little Diomede sets him apart from Sarah Palin -- because she's never actually been there, nor has she set eyes on its neighbor in Russia.
Tuchman says that only 150 people live on Little Diomede, and that the town of Diomede has no streets and no cars. The poverty rate is over 40%, there is no television, and the only practical way to reach it is by helicopter. Anchorage (near Palin's hometown) is 550 miles away.
No Alaskan governor has ever visited Little Diomede, though indicted U.S. Senator Ted Stevens has made the trip. The town's residents barely knew who Palin was, and one of them didn't know she was the VP nominee.
It's going to be fun watching McCain-land spin this one, and it's going to be even more fun watching Tina Fey parody it.

Oh yeah, that will be fun watching McCain spin this one. If only she had actually said that. The quote that I read, and correct me if I'm wrong, is:
""They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.".
Tina Fey already parodied it, and was the one who actually said "I can see Russia from my house!". Good investigative journaling there.

Yeah, but the person at the Clinton News Network that wrote that story is probably a 20 year old intern that actually thinks Tina Fey is Sarah Palin.

You seem pretty confident about your statement there ... I wish I had enough time to search for all of Sarah Palin's crazy statements this election and verify that she has not said she could see Russia. But ... it's not worth it, every American with any brains knows she is not qualified, not ready and not able to serve as VP of the United States. The only issue she has in this election is proving why we should not elect a 72 year old president with a history of cancer to the office based upon his judgement in selecting this woman.
Heck, it I was running for President with my history of renal failure and having a transplant I need to exercize better judgment in who I would pick ... McCain failed America ... he failed to put America First.

Doesn't that depend if you like younger women or older women?

she said:
"they're [Russia] our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska ... from an island in Alaska."
She made this comment to imply that she has some level of insight into foreign relations with Russia... I can see Mars, but I dont believe you will hear me equating that to any special insight into Martian society....

Point is she did not say she was on that island or had seen Russia herself from there.

No, the point is she said being able to see russia from Alaska gives her some sort of insight into relations there. I'm sure you dont find that troubling.

No. Only if you like hot, smart women who are *intentionally* funny.

Maybe I was being too personal then, as my wife meets all said requirements (older, hot, smart & funny)

I'm not sure, but I'm willing to guess that Mrs. LTRT reads this on occasion?LTRT wrote:Maybe I was being too personal then, as my wife meets all said requirements (older, hot, smart & funny)

I totally agree with this. I enjoy taking a detached look at strategies of both camps, and I would be very surprised if someone within the campaign didn't try (without thinking it through obviously) and have her make this stretch. I believe she might have even stretched it further and said that it was relevant because if Russia was going to invade, it'd be through Alaska. Okay, I found this:
PALIN: We—we—do—it’s very important when you consider national security issues as Putin rears his head and comes into the air space of the U S… It’s from Alaska that we make sure that an eye is being kept on… Russia.

If I were the McCain campaign, I think I would have realized by now that Sarah brought something to the campaign not because anyone thought she had excellent foreign policy experience, but because she was (from first glance) the anti-politician. Let her blow off foreign policy stuff and pass it McCain's foreign policy experience. Yeah, it's not good, but it's still better and more honest than what they've got going now. Also, this silence treatment of the media along with a couple embarrassing interviews does not help them at all.
