"We're disturbed about these unfortunate events that have led to this,"
Sorkin said. He declined to say whether Madoff, who has been released
on bail, will fight the charges.

Charities count missing millions in Madoff case Philanthropic groups hit hard by ex-Nasdaq chief's arrest on fraud charges

So when someone turns out to be a complete fraud who has managed to go undetected for decades finally gets busted it's an unfortunate event????? Governors selling senate seats, Senators seeking financial favors, Federal Reserve refusing to disclose recipients of taxpayer funds, President of NASDAQ running a freaking Ponzi Scheme: We should really consider just starting over form scratch!

gee things have really changed havent they....from when?

only exception of same old same old i see is moving jobs to other countries. i dont happen to care if they are communist or jewish or islamic countries..we need to keep the majority of our jobs here is what i think.

uhh anyone recall soon as the bad news hit hard on wall street back ?was it in early nov before the prez election?..the fbi saying they were immediately starting an investigation of wall street because they had "determined" there was illegal activity going on which had made the overall bad situation even worse? will this be the only scheme they uncover? i doubt it. the biggest possibly.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/15/news/newsmakers/Madoff_exposure/index.htm?postversion=2008121508
List of potential victims in what is said to be a massive Ponzi scheme run by money manager Bernard Madoff continues to grow.

Some of the biggest and best-known names in global finance are calculating they may have lost nearly $3 billion in an alleged $50 billion "pyramid scheme" that led to the arrest of a New York financier last week.

HSBC, one of the world's largest banking groups, could lose $1 billion, it announced Monday.

The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) told CNN its hedge funds had exposure of up to 400 million British pounds ($600 million) to funds managed by securities broker Bernard Madoff.

France's BNP Paribas (BNPQ.Y) said Sunday its maximum potential loss was about 350 million euros ($468 million).

Spain's Banco Santander said it had a direct exposure of 17 million euros ($23 million) while clients of its hedge funds had 2.33 billion euros ($3.1 billion) at risk in Madoff's firm. Spain's second-largest bank, BBVA (BFR), said it could lose up to 300 million euros ($404 million).
