"I don't doubt that the President--and I think he'll say this tomorrow--that we've made some hasty decisions that are now going to take some time to unwind. And closing Guantanamo Bay obviously is one of those decisions," he added.
But recently Obama has broken with liberals over his decision to continue Bush-era military commissions to try Guantanamo Bay prisoners and his decision not to release photographs allegedly depicting U.S. soldiers abusing detainees in Afghanistan and Iraq. To an extent, this split with the political left is indicative of the difference between campaigning and governing.
Democrats have withheld funding closure until the White House offers a clear plan on how the detention center will be shut down and importantly, where detainees will be sent.

it doesnt mean he wont get funding..it means they are waiting for a general plan...which will come. so how is this such obama-shattering news?
maybe obama needs to send some of his friends to break into roves shrinks office and come up with some way to undermine the opposition. oh oops the rethugs already tried that plan
thats what the watergate coverup was really about!

Oops.........
What a minute...thought he signed an executive order. What's Congress have to do with this?

BEIJING -- President Obama directly acknowledged for the first time Wednesday that the prison facility at Guantanamo Bay will not close by the January deadline he set, but he said he hoped to still achieve that goal sometime next year.
Obama refused, however, to set a new deadline.
"I'm not going to set an exact date because a lot of this is also going to depend on cooperation from Congress."
