6 year old floats away in balloon...
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091015/ap_on_re_us/us_boy_in_balloon
Unbelievable. Turn on your TV to see it happening right now!
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – A 6-year-old boy climbed into a homemade balloon aircraft in Colorado and floated away Thursday, forcing officials to scramble to figure out how to rescue the boy as the balloon hurtled through the air.
The bizarre scene played out live on television and prompted fears that the flying saucer-shaped balloon would crash with the young child inside. The balloon rotated slowly in the wind, tipping precariously at times.
FAA spokesman Mike Fergus said the agency has been notified and it was unclear whether traffic controllers had picked it up on radar.
Larimer County sheriff's spokeswoman Eloise Campanella said the device had the potential to rise to 10,000 feet. Sheriff's officials last saw the device floating south of Milliken, which is about 40 miles north of Denver.
"We were sitting eating, out looking where they normally shoot off hot air balloons. My husband said he saw something. It went over our rooftop. Then we saw the big round balloonish thing, it was spinning," said neighbor Lisa Eklund.
Additional details about the child and the balloon were not immediately available.

Cnn is reporting that it has landed and no one is inside. I'm so worried for that little boy.

Re: 6 year old floats away in balloon...
I'm hoping the boy hid after the balloon got loose becuase he was afraid of getting in trouble. The wild thought in my mind is that someone snatched the kid and let loose the balloon hoping to divert attention. I'm hoping he's just hiding in a bush somewhere though.
I cannot imagine what those parents are going through.

A guy at the office here said the same thing... check the creepy neighbor's house... or rather put out an amber alert.

Guess my wild thought wasn't quite as wild as I thought. I just read on cnn that there are reports that an object was seen falling from the balloon. I'm guessing that when they find the box they say was attached, they'll find the boy.
I think it's time to go hug my kids, expecially my almost 6 year old.

Re: 6 year old floats away in balloon...
One police officer reportedly said he saw something fall from the balloon not long after it took off.
"The balloon reached an elevation of 8,500 feet and reached a speed of nearly 60 miles per hour, Fox 31 in Colorado reported". Yikes.

Parents behaving badly.
WTF, what a fame hound, his kid is projectile vometing on GMA...oh he just haaaaad to do the interview eh? This arse needs his clock cleaned and his subservient wife needs to grow a pair (she asks if it was OK to go w/her sick child). I for one got caught up in this media frenzy yesterday as well, but this is becoming even more scarier to watch, it's so easy to pass judgement and I want to believe them, but give us better linesRichard Dick.

Re: 6 year old floats away in balloon...
I saw the "Wife Swap" episode they were on. I can definitely see this as being an attention getter. They both are a couple of nut jobs, husband and wife.
I can see the kids being taken away eventually ... or ... they'll get their own show.

Appearing on Larry King the same day your kid was missing for hours? Yeah, that's a little strange. And I heard something about their first phone call being to a news station and not the police. Did I hear that right?LTRT wrote:http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/AheadoftheCurve/balloon-boy-home-safe-family-facing-questions-disappearance/story?id=8842957

I think he's just not tuned into the "real" world. He considers himself an amateur scientist, and no doubt... he's a smart guy. He's just a little too full of himself, and a bit of a megalomaniac. It would not surprise me to hear that he and his wife think their rightful place is on TV. They feel they have some "purpose" or "gift" to give to the entire world. I predict they will have their own show soon.

Another board I am on posted this clip of an interview. The kid makes a very interesting statement. And someone passes some very nervous gas (all before 45 seconds into it). Talk about dad trying to cover tracks. I have no faith that this is real at all.

I watched some clips from youtube when they were on WifeSwap. The dad is an ass and the wife comes across as a big bitch. I think they are a couple of attention whoring assholes. Not to mention, they think they are descendents of aliens...

FAA, News Media, then 911...yeah this stinks of attention getting prank. Here is hoping the authorities start charging for the S&R.

'Who the hell is Wolf?' balloon boy asks...
Ya know this might be funny if we didn't know how disfunctional this family is. It's kinda like when your kid says a bad word for the first time, but something tells me that this isn't the first time this 6 yr old has talked like an adult and probably won't be the last. I'm sure he's got quite the vocabulary of four-letter words, compliments of dear ole dad.
