Brave chimp attack victim speaks to Oprah
First off, this is definitely NOT Entertainment, but did not know where else to put it...
I could never ever imagine the HORROR to those involved in what happened to this woman. My heart hurts for her:
Story here...
A WOMAN who suffered devastating injuries after being mauled by a crazed chimpanzee has spoken for the first time about her horror ordeal.
Charla Nash, who had most of her face torn off during the frenzied attack, went on camera to reveal her torment eight months after the attack.
The 56-year-old suffered appalling injuries leaving her with no eyes, mouth, eyelids and nose.

Re: Brave chimp attack victim speaks to Oprah
Ms Nash has filed a civil suit against Herold seeking $50million in damages for pain and suffering.
Herold says that Ms Nash was her employee at the time of the attack and is entitled only to file a workman's compensation claim, which would greatly limit the amount of money she could receive.
Her family are also set to sue the state for $150m, saying officials failed to prevent the attack.
"officials failed to prevent the attack"...excuse me, but she had a full grown chimpanzee as a pet. It's my understanding that she had this chimp for years and years and had some very (for lack of a better description) different behavior with the now dead chimp. I'm not at all trying to sound cruel, but where does the madness end?

Re: Brave chimp attack victim speaks to Oprah
The chimp was not hers, it was her friends.... it had "gotten out" and the attacked lady was called over to help get the chimp back in and it basically ripped her face off. (that is what I got from the story when it happened a couple yrs ago)

However it happened, how is it the state's fault and then be held liable?

Re: Brave chimp attack victim speaks to Oprah
My only thought is maybe the owner had the chimp illegally, therefore someone felt it was the state's fault for not enforcing a permit law, etc.... basically, the family does not have a leg to stand on, so they are grabbing at straws to sue anyone/thing....LTRT wrote:Her family are also set to sue the state for $150m, saying officials failed to prevent the attack.

I feel horrible for what this woman has gone through and will continue to go through, but as an adult, she willingly went to this house to knowingly try to get this chimp back into the house/shelter, and was attacked. Last I checked, chimps were "wild animals" therefore she took the risk when she put herself into harms way....

Where have we heard this before?
Pet monkey bangs baby's head against cage
LAPORTE – Police in northern Indiana said a pet monkey reached out and banged a 10-month-old girl’s head against its cage several times.

LaPorte’s animal control officer said Indiana requires no permits for pet monkeys and that she’s found the monkey’s owners to be responsible.
Ya think maybe the reason Indiana doesn't require any permit is because monkeys shouldn't be house pets?
