Harry Reid's comments
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100109/ap_on_el_se/us_obama_reid
I don't know, I guess we all say things we wish we hadn't, and public officials comments are more widely criticized b/c of the position they hold. If Obama can forgive him for the comments, then why should I hold it against him? If it had been a Republican who said this, I like to think Obama would have done the same.
WASHINGTON – The top Democrat in the U.S. Senate apologized on Saturday for comments he made about Barack Obama's race during the 2008 presidential bid and are quoted in a yet-to-be-released book about the campaign.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Obama is the nation's first African-American president.
"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments," Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.

Re: Harry Reid's comments
His comments were much more racist than what Lott's were. Of course Obama is going to forgive him; Reid is his only chance to get healthcare through for him.
Hopefully the voters of Nevada finally wake up and see what an idiot this guy really is and vote him out. Much like the voters in SD did to Daschle.

so reid says basically what biden said in the not-too-distant past. similar thing many americans, including myself, were saying among friends black and white when obama decided to run. that his chances at success were much better than what sharpton or jesse had. because he is light skinned and well educated and a gifted speaker and not radical altho he is liberal--more whites wont be afraid of him. and i believe it turned out to be true. i believe if he had been very dark, had not been a man who enunciates his speaking clearly, and if he had had prominant physical features many blacks do have...he may not have won. i have not seen any indication anywhere that anyone who heard the reid comment felt it was made in a manner that appeared to be made in as an offensive negative critique or disrespectful regarding obama or historically.
the lott comment was made in tribute to thurmand and his fab work with the dixiecrats in their efforts to stymie segregation laws. lott praised him for his work on that cause, and said if thurmond had been elected prez when he ran we wouldnt have all the problems we have now.
i disagree with your opinion but no matter.
out of curiosity, how did you feel about the job performance of tom delay as majority leader when he had the job?

Re: Harry Reid's comments
Obama can forgive him because it wasn't an insult toward Obama. It was an insult to African Americans in general, and that was indeed who Reid apologized to. Still I don't think he should be voted out because of it. I think he should be voted out based on his policies.Cincy Fan 44 wrote:I don't know, I guess we all say things we wish we hadn't, and public officials comments are more widely criticized b/c of the position they hold. Just because you say that comment was towards him being a dixiecrat doesn't mean that was the one specific item Lott was referring too. Heck things would have been different if Ford had beat Jimmy Carter, if Ted Kennedy had beat Jimmy Carter in the primary etc. etc.
People like you focus on a specific negative of a person at one time in his whole life. So just remember Thurmon was a DEMOCRAT at the time. Remember current Senator BYRD was a KKK member at one time. So using your thinking that is all we should think of Sen Byrd, and none of the good Sen. Byrd has done since.
What do I think of Delay, well Louisiana wouldn't have gotten 300 million, and Nelson wouldn't have gotten his state exempt and Delay would have gotten there votes (if they were of the same party).

this guy states
Islam, including the biography of Mohammed and the text of the Koran, was invented in the centuries after the Arab Conquest as a religious rationale for Arab imperialism. (opening a door to explain why religions are created is rather interesting..)
All forms of leftism and liberalism are based on an atavistic belief in Black Magic. All are based on the primitive fear of the envious Evil Eye.
The "Original Jurisdiction" clause in the Constitution (Article III, Section 2, Clause 2) offers a way to quickly obliterate Roe v. Wade and teach the Supreme Court a lesson it badly needs to learn: to never again invent non-existent rights in The Constitution.
The next insanity to come in the homosexual assault on the American Family will be PHM: Polygamous Homosexual Marriage. Pathologically promiscuous homosexuals will consider their "marriage" a legalism that will in no way prevent them from adultery en masse. To maintain the pretense of "marriage" however, they will have to quickly begin agitating for the legalization of group sodomization as "just another form of the married life-style".
