Re: was there an earthquake somewhere?
IF the Haitian people did do a "deal with the devil" to drive the French out, I agree with Pat that hopefully they'll see the good in God's people that are there to help them in their time of need and covert their ways.
Does kind of make you wonder how on that island, Haiti is in such bad shape and yet the Dominican Republic does alright. You would think the higher-ups in Haiti would take a look across the border and say "Hey, whatcha doin' over there that's workin' for ya'?"
Granted I don't study that part of the country at all (except for when the D.R. sends us good baseball players!), so my above statement is probably a little short-sighted.

Good one Pez. I think they forgot to mention 6.02 x 10 to the 666 for the Mole Beast (Chemistry students may get that one!).
Re: was there an earthquake somewhere?
I think Pat Robertson fell off the deep end long ago. As far as the earthquake itself, it sounds like the number killed or otherwise affected is going to be astronomical. This is a real shame.

I love how Pat Robertson is a whipping boy when the Left wants to try to put down the Religious Right as if to show how they (the Left) are somehow holier than thou.
Do the Left have missionaries working in Haiti, helping to feed, clothe and educate this poor country? Or do they just show up when the cameras are turned on?
My guess is people like Pat Robertson have done more to help countries like Haiti than the Left could ever hope to.

I don't know about that. Sometimes, I'm pretty sure they've done more to help themselves than to help others. BUT, I do know that there are many conservatives (that I know personally) who are indeed deeply involved in charities and volunteering. But hey, let's not malign the left here. When I was at Purdue, I spent a little bit of time with the Catholic groups there, and not only were they vocally in pro-life stuff (generally considered a conservative position), but many were also very vocal about gun control (in favor of it) and other traditionally "left" positions. And yes, they did much to help out others here and abroad.
Really, I think it's not always a left/right thing as much as people who like to tout themselves as being so great and wise usually end up living most their life for their own benefit. Their right, of course, but it certainly doesn't earn my respect. In this instance, it's earned my ire.

I'm pretty much putting down Pat Robertson... I dont have too many problems with the religious right...
And you comment is pretty weak man. The last thing that needs politicized is charity. Further, you are implying that the only people that help the poor are missionaries with a religious agenda (the very definition of a missionary). This minimizes the very positive works that religious and secular organizations do in the name of charity.

The laugh of the day goes to the washed up Danny Glover.

Can't he get a room with Hugo or something?

Good article, I have been to both countries and wouldn't go back to either. The article made it sound the DR is so much better and it really isn't compared to the other Caribbean islands.
Personally I wasn't that thrilled by any of the islands in the Caribbean, but that is just me.

If you didn't think this guy was whacked out before...On Monday, BB contributor Arthur Goldwag posted a survey of conspiracy theories around the Haiti earthquake, mostly rants about how a US weather weapon disguised as an atmospheric research system in Alaska called HAARP (image above) actually triggered the catastrophe. Now, Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez has reportedly jumped on the bandwagon, blaming the earthquake on a test of the "tectonic weapon." From PressTV:
President Chavez said the US was "playing God" by testing devices capable of creating eco-type catastrophes, the Spanish newspaper ABC quoted him as saying.
The outspoken leader had earlier accused the US of occupying Haiti "under the guise of the natural disaster..."
