Where Are the Jobs, Mr. President?
http://www.house.gov/pelosi/press/releases/Aug03/prWherearetheJobs080103.html
Looks like what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. I'm sure the continued high unemployment rate is Bush's fault.
Pelosi: Where Are the Jobs, Mr. President?
August 1, 2003
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' announcement that 470,000 people abandoned their job searches in July and that 3.2 million private sector jobs have been lost since President Bush took office:
“The fact is that President Bush’s misguided economic policies have failed to create jobs. Since President Bush took office, the country has lost 3.2 million jobs, the worst record since President Hoover. And today we learned that in July nearly half a million people gave up looking for a job.
“Job losses are taking a real toll on the financial security of American families. While Democrats are fighting for opportunity, jobs, and economic security for working families, Republicans continue to focus on helping those who need help the least.
“According to today’s survey, while the national unemployment rate dropped slightly, it still stands at a near record high. In addition, the unemployment rate for African Americans was still over 11 percent in July, and the unemployment rate for Hispanics was 8.2 percent in July.
“It is time for President Bush and the Republicans to get to work for all Americans, not just the elite few.”
Looks like what's good for the goose is not good for the gander. I'm sure the continued high unemployment rate is Bush's fault.

Re: Where Are the Jobs, Mr. President?
I just don't understand how the Unemployment rate could go down .4% in January. I mean the last quarter jobless numbers have been reconfigured to a net loss of 65,000 more unemployed ( Oct down 65K, Nov up 60K, Dec down 60K). Plus a loss of 20K in January and it drops that much.
Sounds like more fuzzy math.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) released its monthly jobs report early May 7 announcing a rise in unemployment to 9.9 percent and an increase of 290,000 jobs.
Any positive job growth is good news to be sure. But in order for Obama to meet his pledge of 4 million jobs created by the end of 2010, the U.S. economy would have to add 932,000 jobs each and every month between now and the end of the year, taking into account both temporary jobs and the number of new positions needed to keep even with population growth. According to the BLS, 2,662,000 jobs have been lost since February 2009.
290,000 jobs added in April
-66,000 temporary Census workers
-100,000 minimum needed every month
________
124,000 additional jobs created in April
Yep, the economy is really roaring back.

No one said it was roaring back... I love how your story uses statistics (your 100,000 figure) attributed to the most reliable source I know: "some economists." Why do you read this stuff when there is plenty of sobering news presented by more reliable sources.

"No one said it was roaring back",...oops my bad, the word everyone one's using is recovery. Wonder how the 40 miilion on food stamps "feel" about this very encouraging news? (Obama's words)

Re: Where Are the Jobs, Mr. President?
But remember, higher unemployment means more people are entering the workforce. Those same people had given up but now they are back because they feel the economy is recovering. So this is a positive! Okay, I can't say that with a straight face.

"President Barack Obama called April's job growth "very encouraging news" but said much remains to be done to put more Americans to work....."
I understand it's easy to cherry pick a three word quote that supports your position, but I don't understand why it's necessary for conservatives to refuse acknowledgment that we are in a recovery and that recovery has been stated time and time again by this administration as meager and slow. The fact that Obama stated "very encouraging news" is simply a fact... he didn't state that he shits sunshine and rainbows.

Re: Where Are the Jobs, Mr. President?
Well we can see the summer of recovery is well underway. After adding and subtracting really only a net gain of 12,000 jobs. Plus the previous months have all been lowered in job creation.
