College Hockey Update.
The LSSU Lakers is having a so so season this year. Currently tied with Notre Dame in the CCHA conference. Not sure what happened to Notre Dame, when they played Michigan State at the FW coliseum they were #8 in the country and beat Michigan State which was ranked #3 at the time. Notre Dame has one of the top coaches in college hockey, as he was the coach for LSSU when they won the frozen four in 1992 & 1994.
For Cincy....who supports all sports team in Ohio. You will be happy to know Miami of Ohio is the #1 team in the nation this week.

This posting is so I don't get accused of jumping on the bandwagon by Irish (not that they are going to go that far this year (but just in case)).

By the way Scoob, who cares about hockey? Let alone college hockey? You're wasting the spaces on the internets.

Actually it is Lake Superior State University. Located in the frigid UP of Sault Ste Marie Michigan. Started following them when I was stationed in the SOO in 1990 when I moved there and was able to see all there home games until I left in the summer of 92. So I got to see their championship season. There college hockey program is their only class "A" collegian sport. Watching their games is what really hooked me on college hockey. Every now and then you can catch them and other college hockey teams on TV off of FIOS not sure which channel.

It is hard to follow on TV. You lose sight of the puck, it is definitely one of those sports where being there is better than TV.

Oddly, I didnt know anything about hockey until the neighbor kids said, "we play hockey sunday nights, you should play"... It's my kind of exercise, on rollerblades and in a school parking lot. I played a dozen or so times, went through three sets of rollerblade wheels and two hockey sticks. Add to that the fact that I was Playing with 21 year old kids (I'm 37) and I was getting more exercise than all of them.

College hockey is weird in that the Big Ten Conference does not have college hockey. So while Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State are part of the CCHA conference. Other Big Ten schools of Wisconsin & Minnesota are in the WCHA.

Ooh, LSSU rings a bell with me. When we visited Sault Ste Marie I can remember all kinds of merchandise for them. I really felt like I was in Canada.

I like going to Komets games here and there. I'm sure I'll watch some of the hockey during the Winter Olympics but other than that it's difficult to watch on TV. I do enjoy watching a bit of the annual New Years Day game played outside though.

I like the NHL games outdoors also. I missed watching it this year. I do enjoy the Komets and try to make it a couple of times a year. My main problem with the Komets is the IHL league has became so small. They need to join the ECHL which is a really good league.
The Lakers split the series with Ferris State this weekend the #14 ranked team in the nation.

Re: College Hockey Update.
This weekend starts the chase for the frozen four. With one of the regionals being held here at the coliseum. Opening round starts at 4 with Miami of Ohio vs Ala-Huntsville and the 2nd game at 7 between Michigan and Bemidji State. Talk about a school no one has heard of (its in Minn, and yes I had to look it up).
The final game is Sunday at 8.
I'm hoping it is a great crowd for this, I would like to see it happen again in the future. Anyone going?

I really want to go to this but don't think i'll be able to make it. The wife is off work on maternity leave so we are pinching the pennies wherever we can. I hope there is a decent turnout so that Fort Wayne could have the opportunity to host similar events. Another possibility would be if the mens NCAA tournament is expanded to 318 teams or whatever, it would be cool to host an early round.

While I've been a hockey fan all of my life, I just not sure of how big the 'local' crowd might be for this weekend's games. I would love to go see the Michigan game, but after looking at the prices for seats, I think I'll just watch it on tv.
Adult: $46.00 (200 Lower Bowl); $36.00 (600 Level)
Youth 12-and-Under: $41.00 or $30.00
College Student: $44.00 or $34.00
600 LEVEL DISCOUNT: All Seats NOW ONLY $30.00 per session!
Prices include $1.00 facility fee. Other convenience fees may apply.

Re: College Hockey Update.
I have to admit I am disappointed at the ticket prices. Heck I saw Michigan State and Notre Dame at the coliseum earlier this year, 3rd row from the glass and paid 24 for both tickets. I realize the tickets would be more than a regular season game but they jacked it up too much in my opinion.
