Evan Bayh Retiring
Big surprise here. This was an incumbent that probably had a shot at being re-elected.

Hopefully this will make it easier for Marlin Stutzman.

Re: Evan Bayh Retiring
It is a shocker, I have to admit that his comments about it seem to be on the mark. Is there really any room for a centrist in Congress anymore?

It really doesn't sound like it; which is too bad since that is where most of the country really is at. I'm waiting on them to turn on Senator Brown just like they have on Collins & Snow, with the RINO call.
Re: Evan Bayh Retiring
The biggest thing the dems in congress could do for themselves and their constituents is to amend senate rules to end the practice of the filibuster. That takes a 2/3 majority so it's likely too late... and they are such crooks that they want to have the opportunity to be obstructionist in the future.
Or, perhaps they should let the republicans filibuster... talk about money being wasted while republicans talk and talk and talk to prevent representative democracy from working. Let the republicans hang themselves.
Congress' dysfunction knows no bounds.

I don't mind the filibuster rule (amazing it was okay when it worked for the Dems when the repub were in power). I just want the filibuster go back to the old way where you got on the senate floor and talked and talked and talked about anything and everything, read books out loud etc. This holding up the hand saying I'm going to filibuster is what is stupid.
Re: Evan Bayh Retiring
i am for filibuster. i do think it should be changed to make 1/4 (example) of their same-party colleagues should be present at all times during the process. sleep..play cards..read other stuff..like they do now, but there should be a requirement for the party doing so to be serious and have a decent amount of folks in the room.

I never said it was ok... it's a cheap tactic and always has been... call the bluff and make them do it.

I heard this lady being interviewed on WOWO earlier this week. I was hopeful at the beginning when she talked about a "grass roots" campaign (even if it is an overused term) and getting common people into the Senate and millionaires out. Then after that it fell apart for me. First, she didn't have the necessary number of signatures and already was playing the blame game. Then she started talking about some feud she is having with the "Tea Bag party" (uh no, it's the TEA party). If you're that bitter before you even get on the ballot, forget it.

I caught that also, said something about having no money (for a campaign) and has only spent $20 so far. (From her bio: I love painting, cooking and baking, doing photography, walking, reading, and politics.) Maybe she might have a bake sale.
