Should the pope resign
First off I'm not bashing this particular religion. The scandal seems to be growing though with the current pope, to where it looks like he covered up scandals. From what I have read he was the person in charge of overseeing the scandals and dealing out the punishments for those caught and he overlooked them. Can the catholic church continue to endure this scrutiny from the outside world and continue to ignore the problem?

I think the pope is unassailable... that any scandal or something cannot be attributed to the Pope. I thought I heard an article somewhere that stated that. The notion that the Pope is infallible is one of the core foundations of the Catholic hierearchy... Where's a catholic when you need one :-)

I'm a Catholic and I have never heard that a Pope is infallible. Doesn't mean it's not true though. I'm not sure what the routine is for investigating a Pope. I'm a lot of help aren't I?

hehe... I'll look around. Me saying, "I think I read an article somewhere that..." isn't exactly definitive :-)

I'm not catholic either. One of the news report said it was over 500 years since a pope has been removed. Not sure if it was self removal or force removal.

Re: Should the pope resign
Yes the Pope should resign, we seem to have the answer to "what did he know and when did he know it". Last night, the pope's pr team was comparing what the Pope is enduring now to what the Jews have endured was hilarious. Who does this man think he is ... or God's point man on earth.
I am sure this post will infuriate a few, ha! I would expect the leader of my church to resign if he was caught in this mess, so Tom Cruise listen up man.

Re: Should the pope resign
I am so glad that I am not catholic or I would be having buyers remorse with this Pope much like Cincy is havng buyers remorse with the President, at least the President did not allow little kids to be abused. Shame on the Pope, shame on the leadership of the Catholic church. Yea, watching the news this morning hearing more how the press is trying to "scapegoat" the Pope in this scandal, please ... the buck stops at Benedict's desk, he personally allowed molestors to continue, shame on him and shame on this church.

Re: Should the pope resign
he should not only resign, he should be prosecuted for knowingly allowing child molestations. hmmm lets see..if the ceo of GE with all their international business had been made aware over a period of decades of numerous child molestations by his employees and he had ordered internal investivations to cease, kept the molesters on their jobs and continued allowing them to work with children, would folks think he should be busted? or should he be able to yell foul and explain he is untouchable by law because after all he is of supposedly proven impeccible lineage? a business is a business.

I believe this subject came up in another thread here and i pointed out then that the now dead pope also knew of the molestations and did NOTHING...and this is the guy the church wants to make a saint????? Shame on them

Re: Should the pope resign
Everyone seems to be ready to lock him up for life, but where are the sources? I have heard of one priest that he transferred after receiving a memo that the priest had received therapy. That's hardly "knowingly allowing child molestations". If it happened repeatedly, then go ahead and set me straight with some reliable sources. And for Jcopetti, I'm pretty sure Cincy wasn't on the panel appointing the Pope, so buyer's remorse doesn't apply.
