More hot water for BP? Empty More hot water for BP?

This might take a little memory jog, but you may remember the decision last year by Scotland to release the Lockerbie bomber to Libya under the assumption that he didn't have long to live (which was false). I think the image that really got to people was the image of his return being celebrated in Tripoli when he landed.

So what does BP have to do with this? Well, they are now under investigation for perhaps lobbying to have him released to Libya in order to secure an contract for access to Libyan oil fields. Right now BP denies that it asked for the release of al-Megrahi, but they do say they did press to get the prisoner transfer completed. Sketchy regardless of how you look at it.

I have been following this story a bit. BP's statement about it was interesting. They stated that they were aware that the continued detention of the lockerbie bomber would affect their ability to realize investments in Libya, however they denied that they exerted any direct influence on the politicians responsible for his release.

Secondly, I find It interesting that he was released on humanitarian grounds, that his cancer was so advanced he had only 3 months to live. Now they are stating that he could easily live another decade.
