Re: How we lookin'?
I'll probably watch some of the games. I've been really down on professional baseball this year for some reason. Aside from paying attention to a guy's stats who grew up 5 houses down from me, I really haven't followed much of anything with it. Anyway, good luck to the Reds, although everyone seems to think the Phils are the real deal.

Re: How we lookin'?
That's what I like about this series against the Phillies...ALL of the experts expect the Phils to beat the Reds. So really, the pressure is on the Phils, not the Reds. This first game is going to be crucial. If the Reds can pull it out (that's what she said) against Roy Halladay, their in the driver's seat. The 2nd game the Phils have Roy Oswalt pitching and he has owned the Reds his whole career, except for the last 2 years. Ah, post-season baseball...I LOVE IT!!!!

Re: How we lookin'?
How we lookin'? Not too good! Phillies pitcher no-hits the Reds to win 4-0 in Game 1. Move along, nothing to see here...

What's the difference between singer Sinead O'Conner and the Reds?

admittendly, it wasn't my best one...just how I felt at the time. Nothing personal...hence the LOL sign. That Sinead O'Conner joke was just...ugh...Aggie Transplant wrote:well, that makes some of my admittedly lame comebacks seem much more witty.....
All I can say to Markwes is...1908 baby.
Re: How we lookin'?
Yeah yeah. Don't worry. Mike Quade is taking us all the way next year. Or Ryne Sandberg. Or Joe Girardi. Whoever it is will take us all the way next year.
Not that this has anything to do with Cubs, but I heard that Chicago has the most recent winners when you look at all 4 major sports. Within the last 25 years, Chicago has had a champion in baseball, football, basketball, and hockey. That has to account for something!

Too bad they need TWO baseball teams in order to make that list...Markwes wrote:Yeah yeah. Don't worry. Mike Quade is taking us all the way next year. Or Ryne Sandberg. Or Joe Girardi. Whoever it is will take us all the way next year.

Re: How we lookin'?
Well, it was a great season to be a Reds fan (finally!). Sure, Colin Coward on ESPN Radio called us "frauds"...but the fact of the matter is, the Reds made the playoffs. Were they overmatched by the Phillies? Sure. But this is a young Reds team that (hopefully) will be a force to be reckoned with in the years to come. Their starting pitching is coming along very well. Most of them are under 25. Votto and Bruce are still youngsters (27 and 23 respectively). The future is bright my friends...the future is bright.
Biggest needs in the off-season: a Left Fielder and an ACE starting pitcher. By ACE, I mean Roy Halladay-ish ACE.
Much like the Braves back in the 90s and early 2000s, the Reds starting rotation was built this year for the long season. Once you get into the post-season though, it's a different ballgame where you know you're going to be facing the other teams Ace (or in the Phillies case, Aces). Teams better have them if they want to go far in the playoffs nowadays. Offense isn't going to do it alone. Good pitching beats good hitting 90% of the time. Post-season games are generally low-scoring.
At any rate, it's been a fun year. Now I'm turning my attention to the Bengals and hoping Carson Palmer can get his good stuff together, b/c he's already got his shit together.

Last night during the football game, I was reading the ticker across the bottom of the TV screen. It appears TO is already starting to gripe about play calling, and his involvement with the offense. That guy is such a bitch.

Re: How we lookin'?
He's got a point. The Offensive Coordinator (Bratkowski) is soooo predictable, it's pathetic. Plus toward the end of the game when the Bengals had something like 3rd and 13 from their own 30 yard line (or something like that), rather than running the ball and then punting to get Tampa Bay back deep, they elect to throw it. The ball glances off Ochocinco's hands and gets intercepted. Never mind the fact the Bengals had a touchdown lead.IrishGuy wrote:Last night during the football game, I was reading the ticker across the bottom of the TV screen. It doesn't matter. He should shut his big piehole (huge, by the way) and play. That's been his problem everywhere he's been. So much talent and so little brains.
