Surprise dip in jobless claims
DJIA rallies as new unemployment claims dropped 20,000 (to 368,000) instead of the expected rise of about 7,000.

hehe... I crack myself up. Anyway, I read a statistic that jobless claims below 400,000 indicated job growth overall. So we should expect the unemployment figure to tick down soon. It's the lowest level in two years.

Along with wasn't there some bad weather last week in which would effect the jobless numbers. The one that gets me is they (news sources) are also still running ADP numbers as fact. Once again ADP said 200,000 jobs created last month. Hey they only missed it by 150,000+ the last two times.
Of course watch the recovery stall once gas hits $4 dollar plus later this year.

Gallup Finds U.S. Unemployment Hitting 10.3% in February
Underemployment surged to 19.9% in February from 18.9% at the end of Januaryby Dennis Jacobe, Chief Economist
PRINCETON, NJ -- Unemployment, as measured by Gallup without seasonal adjustment, hit 10.3% in February -- up from 9.8% at the end of January. The U.S. unemployment rate is now essentially the same as the 10.4% at the end of February 2010.
These numbers sound more realistic.

Re: Surprise dip in jobless claims
k... found it... so 18,000 telephone interviews sound more realistic to you than the "actual" numbers of new jobless claims?
Also, I'm sure this polling was conducted throughout the day, dureing working hours. It seems that it's possible that Gallup calling people during working hours will result in a skewed number of unemployed answering the phone, because, well, they arent at work, or work part time....
Again, why do you find these numbers more reliable? I'm asking for your opinion.

Re: Surprise dip in jobless claims
"Initial claims" lol, how about those who have exhausted all benefits and STILL haven't a job? How about those who've lost higher paying jobs and now settle for p/t or 2/3 or more less than their previous job payed? etc, etc, etc. How about the AP, Reuters and the rest of the media get off and report the truth for once?Pez wrote:k... found it... so 18,000 telephone interviews sound more realistic to you than the "actual" numbers of new jobless claims?

I never stated any other figure, nor did the reuter's story.
TSIW... you didn't even answer my question... Do you not feel as if a Gallup poll conducted by telephone would be more likely to find unemployed people because they would be more likely to be home?
If you want to compare apples and oranges and say that Reuters (more accurately the DOL) is lying because they didn't say the apple was an orange, that's not Reuters kissing ass, that's a comprehension issue.
