Large numbers...
If I did the math right....
If the entire Federal budget is $1000, the 52 billion in cuts proposed before congress right now equates to about fifteen bucks.

I think I'm confuzzed. Of the $1000 federal budget above, $200 is going to Social Security. What/Why does the federal budget pay into Social Security? I thought that was "funded" in Social Security taxes taken out of our paychecks.

Re: Large numbers...
And everyone is fighting this hard about $52 Billion.
Again, this is where our leaders fail us. We need to open up the entire budget, look at it line by line by line and talk about what we can afford or not afford... Are our priorities in line with the expectations? Are we a nation that can leave unsustainability to our children, then the problem will ultimately be much harder?
We have to do something about this now, or the bond market will make us do it. Bonds are our credit card. If no one will buy a treasury bond, it's akin to cutting them up. Then we will have no choice but to cut the budget in a very painful and catastrophic way. eg, we cant pay government salaries because we have no cash nor credit.
