To quote Mort, now THIS is good Mexican! I finally found a margarita in Ft. Wayne that I liked. The chiles poblano were pretty good, also.

But the drinks here are not cheap by any means. The three of us split a jumbo margarita, and then I had one of their premium margaritas. The latter was excellent, but expensive. I justified it in my mind as I had a $15 discount certificate from the restaurant.com website I've mentioned previously. I don't think I'd go again without one.

That's what I had, also. I guess it wasn't that it was so expensive, it was that you had to get the premium margarita in a jumbo size (nothing smaller). Not that I had any problem finishing it, though......

I really liked Agaves.

Mort -- did you like Antiqua better?

not sure if you're asking me or iberlingirl...... but all three of us loved what we ordered.

And I consider myself quite picky about Mexican food. However, to give it a full thumbs up, I need to go back a few times and try their queso (excuse me, cheese dip) and other items.

Yeah I am very picky Mexi eater also I spent 20 years out in So. Cal. and its really good there..i'm spoiled... I don't like the Mex american style Evil or Very Mad ..I like the real thing.

When I first got here I ate at Bandio's Crapola it sucked. affraid the Locals said it was good lol ..also i found that most of them used a regular green pepper to make chile rellenos..omg gross I think one of them had American velveeta cheese in it gag city..... affraid

I lived in Texas 25 years, and I am used to Tex-Mex. So you and I may not like the same things.

But I do chuckle at what folks up here consider "hot". Ha.

I asked for tomatillo sauce at Agaves, and received it on the side. However, it was red. The waitress told me that was the color it was supposed to be. (??) Maybe they mixed it with tomatoes.

Surprisingly, it was relatively hot. You could see the jalapeno seeds in it. It wasn't what I was looking for, as I wanted more of a creamy tomatillo sauce, but I was still surprised at the bite it had for Ft. Wayne.

Any Mexican restaurant I go to, I always ask for the "HOT" salsa with the chips and they always bring something out that is far hotter than the salsa they serve with the chips. Haven't been to one yet that does not have the hot stuff available. And yes, usually the HOT is green and not red.

I asked for the hottest stuff at Bandito's, and it was, at best, tepid.

Aggie, i'll have to get you a really hot homemade pepper sauce.
Made with the Jamaican Scotch Bonnet Peppers.
That stuff is extremely hot. Most of these sauces are like ketchup...LOL.

Cant' - Won't - Don't eat extremely hot foods.

I don't get it. There are many subtleties in the flavor of food and jacking up the heat to a pointless level just kills the tasebuds to anything but the heat.

I don't mind a little spice, but no, thanks.

Like ketchup on steak.

Plus I have interesting gastero reprecussions...if you know what I mean.

And I think you do.

I do know what you mean, but I choose not to think about it.

I like spicy foods, but I do not like those that heat is all you can taste. There is a habanero mint sauce we make for lamb chops -- it's definitely hot, but it's a good flavor.

I agree with you both it should be hot and tangy but not so hot that it affects your taste buds. Shocked

There was a Mexican guy @ work with me @ GM and he bragged how he could eat jalapeno peppers raw. A pop and chew thing..he says "not hot for my blood" . geek

So that year I grew some pepper plants. I get all my garden plants organic from Country Farm Market out on 24 there by the Aboite rd.

I always get one or 3 pepper plants, but this time I asked for one plant that was super hot and it was too omg I could barely cut into it without blinding myself..I had my wife standing by with a garden hose and a fire extinguisher...... hell the smoke alarms went off hehe:shock:

I brought 4 of them to work he ate 2 1/2 and almost puked..and turned several cool colors and had some interesting expressions ....I never laughed so hard lol! lol! affraid

Oops I went off on a tangent didn't I Question Twisted Evil
