Not really. But I've been hooked on random dark 80's music. Joy Division, Bauhaus, Christian Death. Yes, there's a band named Christian Death. They're pretty cool actually. It's like 80's horror punk.

I was glad that Joy division didnt continue on as JD after whats his name offed himself. New Order was a completely different animal than JD.
Bauhaus can do no wrong IMHO. And I cant think of 80's bands without mentioning the Cure... "Disintegration" is still a masterpiece of modern music. It's literally timeless.
Check out Skinny Puppy when you have a chance. You can even go back and get some Moby Grape, which should lead you around to Nick Drake eventually... Which always seems to remind me of a Band called Spain... Spain put Out an album called "The Blue moods of Spain" and I consider it a masterpiece as well, at least lyrically. The images of a lonely person praying to Jesus so that he doesnt have to die alone is spectaculary striking, and so raw in the language in which it was rent that it literally transforms you... much in the same way that watching forrest gump might make you say, "Im not a smart mahan"

Pez, when I went through my "dark" music period, I bought a Skinny Puppy CD on the recommendation of a friend. I must say I couldn't get into it at all. As I recall, there was no real flow to any of the "songs" - more of a random placement of tidbits. Maybe it's just over my head. I also have Disintegration in my collection. I agree there is some good stuff on it and it got rave reviews. My only problem with it is after awhile very song seems to sound the same to me - that same tempo and instrumental sound with Robert Smith's "I'm so depressed" vocals only goes so far with me!pez wrote:I was glad that Joy division didnt continue on as JD after whats his name offed himself. Ok I will show my age or how "uncool" I must be ... I have no idea who these groups are, at all.

I have no coolness to lose by saying that I am unfamiliar with those bands.

Skinny puppy is definitely an acquired taste... I have to be in just the right mood... the Pixies are an acquired taste also, but I can listen to them anytime.
