If you got to choose any restaurant to come to the Fort, what would it be?

I'd love to see The Melting Pot come. I love interactive food.
I'd take a Cheesecake Factory for...well, the cheesecake! I must say, the crabcakes were very good too.
On a more fast food side, I'd love to see an Earl of Sandwich. I'm sure lots of people would argue different places have better sandwiches, but I sure enjoyed what we had in Florida.

Restaurant: Maybe a Max & Erma's (although Applebee's is pretty much the same) or a Joe's Crab Shack.

Fast Food: There is only one...Skyline Chili.

Max & Erma's is decent I ate there often when I was in Ann Arbor. Joe's Crab Shack sucks. The food is terrible, and they had one here on Coldwater, it tanked and closed after a few years. Wife and I ate there once, never been back. I went to Joe's in AA because they had happy hour beer specials, the stuffed mushrooms sucked. I had some Dungeness crab once, it sucked. I had some king crab there once, it sucked. Did I mention that I think the whole place is just "sucktastic"?

The *was* a Joes Crab Shack at Coldwater and Washington Ctr.

All the loud music, dancing, fun times, and hot waitresses in the world can't make up for shitty, overpriced food and service.

Fail.

That place was absolutely HORRIBLE.

RE: Skyline Chili

From the website...

Skyline Chili, Inc. is currently franchising only in portions of the states of Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky that are within 200 miles of our Fairfield, OH Commissary.

The good news?

Fort Wayne is roughly 174 miles from Fairfield, OH.

Potential score!

Sorry you guys had a bad Joe's here. The one we had in Dayton (it's still there I believe) was actually pretty good...

SWEET! Maybe if one of those Oil Predictors predicts a Skyline Chili for the Fort it will happen. Very Happy

Right now, I think the closest Skyline is in Muncie, but I'm not gonna drive there just for Skyline Chili...tempting...but not at $4 a gallon...

The Movenpick is an open concept restaurant where you walk around and choose what you want and they cook it up for you right there, then stamp the card that was given to you at the door.
It is a neat concept and they have a variety of foods.

You know, I always thought House of Hunan should move in there. If they can get past the shitty service and mediocre food, the location would do better for them.

I don't see how would be any improvement over where they are right now. Less than half a block away on the same side of the street.

Been there. Done that.

The Great Food Escapade of 2005. A buddy and I drove to Muncie specifically to go to Skyline. Walked in, ordered 4 coneys with jalapeno cheese and a 5-way. We scarfed it down and left. 5 minutes down the road, we passed Penn Station. That was the first time I'd ever seen or heard of the place.

ME: "Dude...Penn Station? Looks like a sub shop to me!" (my buddy and I have similar tastes)

HIM: "Let's check it out and get one to take home for later!"

So he slammed on the brakes. We stopped and each of us got a sub to take home...or so we thought. We got in the car and my buddy says, "I'm going to take a bite just to see if it's worth a damn." So, I thought...what the heck. Me too!

We sat there and both of us ate the entire sandwich.

45 minutes later, I'm literally crying because my gut hurt so bad and I thought I was going to have the uncontrollable sharts. I'm not lying...I was seriously crying. I was in such major pain that I almost had him take me to a hospital because I thought something was internally wrong.

As it turns out...a healthy poo is all that was needed.

Ahhh...those were the days!

That's what I figured. I love Penn Station as well. Their subs are freakin' sweet, and I was really glad when the one on Dupont opened up. Now, just waiting for it to be Skyline Time! I still remember their old jingle..."Heavenly days and nights are falling, it's skyyyyline time..."

Are you a Gold Star fan?

I, personally, think it's pretty good BUT no where near the status of Skyline.

I tried Steak & Shake's version of Gold Star, and was truly disappointed. I've never been to a Gold Star place though.

Though I've never had it, I'd be willing to bet that *true/real*Gold Star Chili would blow the S&S version (whatever it is?) out of the water.
