Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Amazing in that one of the fathers is believed to be a 24 year old homeless man. My guess (if they can find him) is he won't be homeless anymore. He'll be going to a place where he'll get 3 square meals a day and get to live in a "big house" for statutory rape. (Seems like his life will be better
)
A couple good ways to cut down on Teen Pregnancies...
1) The teen's parents refuse to play parents again to the grandchild
2) The gov't stops programs that give benefits to teen moms.
Yes, yes, it seems harsh. But maybe it'll cut down on the attitude of "Well, it doesn't matter, because mommy & daddy will take care of it for me so I can still go out and have a good time every night; and I won't need a job b/c the gov't will give me money to raise my kid."

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Some parents doesn't want them to distribute condoms etc.
This is another topic that requires education to the teens about responsibility and consequences.

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Touchy subject, but for me personally, I don't want the school to hand out condoms to my kids. I trust that we can teach them the difference between right and wrong, and that when they'll be faced with that decision, they will make a smart decision. But it's never easy, is it?Canuck wrote:Some parents doesn't want them to distribute condoms etc.

Check back with me though in 10 years...
Re: Teens pregnancy pact
I agree with the condoms being a touchy subject.
I think education coming from home and the school is needed.
Teach the kids about consequences and responsibility.
We are living in an age where sex is promoted all around us, kids absorb that kind of advertising too.

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Definitely agree that education about sex (teen pregnancies, STD's, etc.) needs to be a joint effort between the parents and the school, but if anyone is going to be handing out condoms to my kids, it will be me. That, IMHO, is my job...not the school's.
Re: Teens pregnancy pact
I'd still like to see the government totally eliminate all welfare programs. Woohoo, lets get knocked up and live off the government.

I'm glad this was brought up because I read this article before I saw it posted here and read the quote:Cincy Fan 44 wrote:Definitely agree that education about sex (teen pregnancies, STD's, etc.) needs to be a joint effort between the parents and the school, but if anyone is going to be handing out condoms to my kids, it will be me. "in the wake of the rash of pregnancies, school health officials wanted to be able to dispense birth control pills to students."
What kind of morons are these people to think girls who wanted to get pregnant would use birth control?

They were probably just trying for the "due diligence" bit. Make it seem they were trying to address the issue.

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Cincy I completely understand that you will be responsible enough to educate your children about sex and sexual practices but the truth of the matter is that if schools don't and if schools don't handout condoms that kids WILL have unprotected sex because 1) they don't know better and 2) they can't afford condoms. I completely understand why some don't want schools handing them out but not all parents are up for parent of the year awards.

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Regarding buying condoms...do you have to be a certain age? I really don't know. Honestly. Plus, (and this is just me thinking this), would there be some embarrassment/uneasiness for kids to walk into a store and buy nothing but condoms? I would think there would be, especially in small towns where everybody knows everybody.

More than most high school kids can afford but in reality they need to understand they can't afford to NOT use them.

I don't think there is an age requirement on them, some stores have them under lock and key ... lol That probably prevents adults from buying them there too. I think some kids would be embarrassed to go buy them locally but others would be like, oh well .. everyone uses them.

I am with you Cincy.

As far as BC pills, the school does not the the students medical history or have a medical liscense to dispense these. These pills have many side effects. Who do they think they are?

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
This is just my opinion, but I would think in general most kids would be more uneasy taking condoms from a school official inside their school with other kids around than they would be in a store. Even kids who live in a small town can go to the next town over if they are that worried about the clerk being someone they know.Cincy Fan 44 wrote:Regarding buying condoms...do you have to be a certain age? Re: Teens pregnancy pact
I get the impression that we are putting the responsibility of these girls actions on the school. I don't think that is fair to the schools. I think the first burden of responsibilty should be at home.
Where are the parents in all of this? What kind of home life are they exposed to? Those are questions that needs to be addressed as well.
If these children are taught the consequences/responsibilities of their actions from home, they might think twice before getting involved in activities like this. Of course there will be the children who will do it regardless.
They need to be taught to think for themselves not follow someone just to fit in. In many cases they will do the things out in public that will make them feel accepted by their peers as a way to rebel against their parents.
They will also follow along because of their own lack of confidence and low self esteem.
I just saw this on yahoo.

Re: Teens pregnancy pact
Anyone can buy condoms.. however.. most people, regardless of age, don't LIKE to buy condoms because you are basically going up to the cashier and saying "hey, I'm about to go get laid.. hopefully."
If you're in HS you have to worry about running into someone you know, it's not like you can come up with another reason to buy condoms, then you have to worry about the little old lady behind you who will tell you premarital sex is a sin, blah blah blah.
It's a social thing. Kids want to have sex, they don't want people other than their friends to know, so they play the "pull and pray" game. Assuming they remember to pull that is.
