Brett Favre
I'm hoping he goes to the Bears... that'd make me happy.. it's one thing to have a QB who you know will throw 2 INT's in a game, it's another to have faith that that same QB will actually throw a TD as well... currently.. the Bears only have the first part of that scenario.

Re: Brett Favre
Surely the bears are looking at him for vet minimum and salivating. I will be very surprised if it happens tho.

Re: Brett Favre
What a PR nightmare for the Pack! I think they should just trade him to whomever gives them the best deal. Don't just release him so he can go and sign with da Bears or the Vikings and come back and beat you. I like Favre, but there comes a time when the Pack just have to take a stand and not play Bret's retirement game, which they seem to be doing now, and he doesn't like it.

Brett doesn't feel welcome. Awww! If I was the Green Bay organization, I would do the same thing. Can you imagine having a backup Aaron Rodgers who anticpates being the starter, going through years of "Is he or isn't he going to retire?", then he officially announces it, you tell Rodgers the job is his, and then Brett decides he wants to come back?

Re: Brett Favre
So it's looking like he's going to the Vike's either through a trade or release.. my question.. why the eff aren't the Bears trying to get their snouts in there? Seriously... the QB's suck worse than Tavaris Jackson and they aren't making a public offering just to keep fans happy?
You know it's bad when Bears fans are excited about the possibility of getting Chris Simms

I was under the impression that they can not do anything by rule. Wasn't that what got the Vikings in trouble, talking to Favre?cardinal5150 wrote:So it's looking like he's going to the Vike's either through a trade or release.. my question.. why the eff aren't the Bears trying to get their snouts in there? Favre is under contract for two more seasons. If he wants to play, it either has to be with the Packers, or with another team via the Packers trading him or releasing him. I can't see the Packers releasing him because they will be stuck with paying his signing bonus over the next two seasons against their salary cap. If they trade him, even for a 7th round draft pick, then the new team takes on that contract.

Re: Brett Favre
Just saw where the Packers offered Favre a 10 year, $20 million contract to essentially stay retired. You know what I would say? "Where do I sign?"
Re: Brett Favre
I don't think he cares much about the money.. how many millions has he made? He came back because he wants to play.. besides.. Wrangler is paying him.
There's the tampering issue to work around, and most likely the Vike's would be willing to settle that to Green Bay's satisfaction if they could get Favre in trade. Seems to be at a stalemate right now, Goodell isn't doing anything to move the process along.

From what's been reported he won't go to NY or Tampa.. he only wants to go to Minny.. great defense, great run game, great line.. shitty receivers...

Favre to be reinstated by NFL, report to Packers on Monday
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/football/nfl/specials/preview/2008/08/03/bc.fbn.favre.ap/index.html?cnn=yes
$20 mill wasn't good enough for him to stay retired I guess.

Re: Brett Favre
Well.. it'll make the Jets tolerable to watch now anyway.. should be interesting.. a revamped offensive line, Thomas Jones is still good, and a QB who can actually hit his receivers downfield (or the other teams DB's). I can't remember if it was Clayton or Mortenson on the Herd this afternoon, he thinks this will push the Jets ahead of the Pats for the AFC East. Can't say I buy that, but he's certainly more knowledgeable than me in that area.

Are you sure somebody actually said the Jets would be better than the Pats? I didn't listen today, but that's crazy. The thing that Favre brings is the ability to beat a team on a given day. He alone won't make the Jets world beaters, but he will definitely give them a better chance of beating up the Pats twice per year.

Yup.. pretty sure it was Mort... he said the Jets were his darkhorse team to make the playoffs even with Pennington because their O Line is much improved. They had a decent D last year. I don't see them getting ahead of the Pats, but stranger things could happen. They play At San Diego and against the Pats in weeks 2 and 3, so we'll find out quickly if they are for real.

Outside chance of making the playoffs, maybe. But on par with the Pats, hell no.

Re: Brett Favre
At best, the Jets are a .500 team WITH Favre. The Patriots will win that division. The division will NOT get a Wildcard berth, either. Someone's drinking the green tea.

Re: Brett Favre
I concur... The Jets will get two cracks at the Pats, and I'm sure that the Pats will destroy them both times. After which I am sure that Tom and Bill will return to the hotel room together and take turns inserting claw hammers into each others rectum.

This guys loves the drama huh? I think I will intentionally not watch any of his games. I suppose we can look forward to another repeat of this after this season.

I didn't notice how long the contract was. I guess I'll be interested to hear how long they sign him for.

He can eat a di**... I said on another board that discusses this topic that it's only a matter of time until he's bawling on national TV about something...
