The Olympics
Anybody excited about the Olympics this year? Me? Not really. I'm sure I'll watch some of it, but for the most part, I prefer the Winter Games (bobsled, ski jumping, and other 'extreme' sports). I just don't get too worked up about seeing a bunch of people running around a track or jumping into sand (now if it was quicksand, that would be better!).
Re: The Olympics
I dig the Olympics... Regardless of who wins... just the infrequency of it and the spectacle makes it cool to me...

Re: The Olympics
I'll watch some, the swimming, gymnastics. The 41 year old female swimmer, Dara Torres I will be following just because of how she has trained to get to the olympics.
I see where FIOS has three channels dedicated to the olympics. I just hope they show some of the stuff not normally shown.

Re: The Olympics
I am only interestred in the 41yo swimmer, Dara! She blows my mind. A year older than I and I would never dream of being able to do what she is doing!!

I've been to many bars, high and low, and I think I could compete with anyone. Or is this something different?Cincy Fan 44 wrote:Just saw the men's high bar event...my 4 year old daughter is convinced that I could do that too. Oh how naive the young are...

Re: The Olympics
It was just really neat, mainly because everything they did was done by people, too hard to explain, ya just had to see it to understand. And the fireworks!!! OMG, I have never seen that many in my life... COOL!!! I felt like a kid!!Cincy Fan 44 wrote:Seriously Iber, tell us how you really feel. Re: The Olympics
We watched some last night, my wife likes to watch gymnastics, I have no interest in it. I can dig the swimming because I want to see Phelps get 8 golds (Go Blue!). I'm looking forward to the track and field events the most though, probably because I use to run and trained at BSU with a guy who was on the German team and realized quickly how I had NO chance of even looking decent against those guys.

Re: The Olympics
I think the gymnastics guys like to come from behind quite often...
Anyone watching Phelp's quest for the 8 golds? We watched his race, Piersol and Coughlin last night.. pretty good.. Piersol was ridiculous in how much he came back. Phelps was just a beast in the first race, he was something like 2-3 seconds ahead of second place. That's crazy fast.

I said that I wasn't going to watch much, but am becoming glued as always. Phelps is amazing, I like in a post race interview how he said he likes to get a full body lead and have the others chase him.
You notice how skinny as a pole Mike is and the women have V-shapes double the average guy.

Re: The Olympics
That really doesn't bother me too much. It's just one part of the overall "entertainment performance." Whereas with say Milli Vanilli, you're paying money to see them, and then when they dupe you, I'd be upset. I liken the Chinese Opening Ceremony to kind of like watching "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and the "Twist & Shout" song 'sung' by Matthew Broderick...obvious lip-syncing there, but it didn't ruin my overall opinion of the movie (it's one of those movies that I can watch anytime I'm flipping thru the channels).Markwes wrote:More trickery from the Chinese?

Re: The Olympics
I guess I don't put it on an even par with Hollywood movies or big entertainers. This was China's big chance to show the world they have improved their image. I wouldn't have a problem if it was just a case of the real singer being nervous and not wanting to do it or whatever, but if she wanted to and they turned her down just because her teeth weren't quite right, that's a bit of a problem for me.Cincy Fan 44 wrote:That really doesn't bother me too much.
