Anyone watching? For the first time in four years (I think) that Federer isnt ranked #1 and is the top seed. Nadal hasnt historically been that great on hardcourts, but His game is vastly improved. It's still in the early rounds, the biggest surprise I've seen is hantchucova losing in the first round.

There's a Lot of people out this year... Sharapova, Roddick, Hewitt... so they had to go deeper in the rankings to fill the field. Roger Federer played Maximos Gonzales... the guy had only played in challenger tournaments all year, and had lost all of those in the first round. Fed won 6-3, 6-0, 6-0.... Welcome to the tour Maximos...

Not yet, but I'm sure I'll catch some of it. For my money, the 1991 US Open (er, The Jimmy Connors Open) was one of the most exciting sporting events I've ever seen on TV. If only they could all be like that one...

Top-Seeded Ivanovic Upset by Coin at U.S. Open

When I first saw this headline, I thought "What's the big deal about a coin that got her so upset?", but then I realized Coin is the name of the 188th ranked woman that beat the top seed. That has to rank up there with some of the biggest tennis upsets.

Ivanovic was a flash in the pan anyway. She plays a billion tournaments a year and they have changes the rules for next year so that she cant be ranked #1 for consistently beating high schoolers... Well, not that severe, but they ended up requiring all the top pros play a selected of the grand slams and 3-4 smalled tournaments, and they will weight the rankings accordingly from there.
