Re: McCain's VP????
Hmmm, doesn't make a lot of sense does it? From what I heard watching some political analysis, she was told early in the pregnancy that there could be problems, but she chose not to have an abortion. I'm thinking that's something like what the article meant to say.meta4 wrote:NY Times article wrote:Ms. Palin is known to conservatives for choosing not to have an abortion after learning two years ago that she was carrying a child with Down’s syndrome. “It is almost impossible to exaggerate how important that is to the conservative faith community,” Mr. Reed said.
Interesting! I think that would be an extremely long gestation period for a human being... isn't it usually 40 weeks? The child with Downs was born in 04/08 so not sure how she could have known for 2 years...

i dont get why its confusing....the way i saw it was that she was informed the baby had downs syndrome (no could be problems about it--the downs testing is specific to the syndrome, not general or vague possible problems) approx 2 yr ago while pregnant, and the child who is now born does indeed have downs syndrome.
and as i scour for info on the evil brother in law and his misdeeds..one odd thing is that almost all the "complaints" come from sarahs family fairly recently +++during and after+++ a messy custody battle between sarahs sister and her ex mr evil. didnt complain while the couple were married. and about when a moose was shot and he put his own tag on it which is actually illegal cause he was there but didnt actually shoot the animal....sarahs dad is who butchered it and sarah and her hubby took a portion home to their own freezer and ate it...all knew how it was shot and whose tag was used. wasnt an issue until a few years later when the couple are divorcing seems odd!! the tazing incident altho stupid..the teen step son, again a few years ago, wanted to see how it felt and evil ex turned it to lowest setting and yes tazed him. he was reprimanded by his police office. remember 2 years ago...was it absolutely unheard of to taze anyone to see how it felt or whatever? yes he was a minor, yes it was dumb, yes he was punished at the time. all other accusations are by sarahs family members and are "someone said" stuff, they didnt actually hear evil ex say the stuff and nobody ever came forward and said the ex said it to them...seems a bit iffy. the big nast divorce battle was over custody. i am betting evil ex will become a dem friend soon and tell his side of the story

FF, they test for Downs by drawing Amniotic fluid and doing an AFP test. This test is about 75 or 80% accurate.
Hence, she needs to be pregnant before they test, it's impossible to be pregnant for two years, and if she was positive with an earlier test, that earlier child would have downs, not the one born just this year in April of 2008.

Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Includes Alaska's Natural Gas Reserves Print Now Printer Friendly
No. 08-135
August 4, 2008, Fairbanks, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,” Governor Palin said. “The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs.”
In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, “Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process.”
Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.
“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”
The Governor did question the means to pay for Obama’s proposed rebate — a windfall profits tax on oil companies. In Alaska, the state’s resource valuation system, ACES, provides strong incentives for companies to re-invest their profits in new production.
“Windfall profits taxes alone prevent additional investment in domestic production. Without new supplies from American reserves, our dependency and addiction to foreign sources of oil will continue,” Governor Palin said.

Seen the announcement and her speech today on ABC. I was very pleased with McCain's choice. Pat White had it right all along.

Re: McCain's VP????
Hmm, an interesting choice by McCain. Indeed, he has seemed to sacrifice the "experience" advantage he held over Obama, but perhaps McCain saw that advantage shrink when Obama picked Biden as his running mate.
I see a couple of pros in trying to win people over - particularly those who felt disenfranchised by the candidates anyway. For instance, I am determined to find a third-party candidate whose ideals I can actually get behind. So for someone like me, how much does Washington experience count? Obviously not a whole lot. Now I still don't feel that this pick has what I am looking for in a candidate - but for someone who is more in the Republican mold than I am, I think this pick could definitely win them over.
Also, for a change election - what feels like change more than a Washington outsider?
But before I get blasted for these comments, I need to point out that I pretty much left out actual policies. I think it could easily be argued that even though she's an outsider, it won't constitute change unless there is a shift in direction from the current administration. And how many self-identified Republicans were actually thinking about the third-party ticket? Probably not a whole lot. Nope, I just think that the real advantages will come in that she solidifies the conservatism that I think some people thought was lacking in the McCain. And for those who don't really follow policies as much as voting on their "gut" feeling based on likeability, personality, etc; well, I think that's where the stuff I've noted above will come into play. She does seem like a pretty nice and likeable person at this point, anyway. After all, she kind of nixes the normal Republican look of old cronies.
I think I'll still be checking out the big-time long-shots on vote-smart.org.

just some youtube moments before they get scrubbed like her wiki profile did the day before she was announced to be veep candidate

edit----shouldnt have used the word "scrubbed" which i suppose would mean removed. rather meant cleaned up..read/heard in npr site this morning an interview with wiki bossman, frustrated because she went in and removed some stuff and added other. he said its against wiki rules to take out unpleasant facts for political gain on ones own information, which it appears would be the reason since it was done 24 hr before she was announced.

Yes, of course. I wish to express a momentary feeling of embarrassment.

McCain’s VP pick Palin draws boos when mentioning Hillary Clinton
Posted by: Jeff Mason
WASHINGTON, Pa. - So maybe saying nice things about Hillary Clinton at a Republican rally isn’t such a good idea.
John McCain’s new vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, acknowledged the New York senator on Saturday when reflecting on her new found role as a national candidate.
The reaction from a large chunk of the audience: boos.
“I think as well today of two other women who came before me in national elections, and I can’t begin this great effort without honoring the achievements of Geraldine Ferraro back in 1984 and of course, Senator Hillary Clinton,” Palin said.
Boo. Boo. Boo.
So much for trying to win over disaffected Clinton supporters. They, apparently, are not turning up to McCain-Palin rallies.
But no matter. The Alaska governor breezed on with a nod to her own historic bid, in Clinton’s wake.
“It was rightly noted in Denver this week that Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America,” she said. “But thankfully, as it turns out, the women of America aren’t finished yet, and the voters will shatter that glass ceiling once and for all.”
The McCain campaign has made a concerted effort to win over Clinton backers who were upset at her loss in the Democratic primary to Illinois Sen. Barack Obama.
Palin’s presence on the ticket puts the mother of five in line to make history as the first female U.S. vice president if she and McCain beat Obama and his running mate, Delaware Sen. Joe Biden, in the Nov. 4 election.

Crossover voters aren't changing parties. While I may vote for McCain-Palin, I am still a Dem and would not go to a Republican rally.

Palins release statement on daughter's baby
Posted: 12:51 PM ET
(CNN) — Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin and husband Todd are talking directly about their 17-year-old daughter's pregnancy.
In a joint statement released by the McCain campaign, the Palins say their daughter will keep the baby and marry the father.
Full statement:
We have been blessed with five wonderful children who we love with all our heart and mean everything to us. Our beautiful daughter Bristol came to us with news that as parents we knew would make her grow up faster than we had ever planned. We’re proud of Bristol’s decision to have her baby and even prouder to become grandparents. As Bristol faces the responsibilities of adulthood, she knows she has our unconditional love and support.
Bristol and the young man she will marry are going to realize very quickly the difficulties of raising a child, which is why they will have the love and support of our entire family. We ask the media to respect our daughter and Levi’s privacy as has always been the tradition of children of candidates.
Looks like that evangelical abstinence only no contraceptives teaching of hers really helped her daughter. lol.

Re: McCain's VP????
You're probably right. Palin should have just taught her daughter that in this throw away society of ours, just go ahead and get rid of the BABY before it's born because it's going to be nothing but a hindrance and doesn't deserve to live anyway. Only the babies that are conceived when they're truly wanted should be kept and all the others should be sucked away! Is that what you're saying?Jugomugo wrote:Looks like that evangelical abstinence only no contraceptives teaching of hers really helped her daughter. lol.
Re: McCain's VP????
That would actually solve a LOT of problems in our current global environment. I've already stated that unwanted spawn fetuses would make great fuel for America's gas guzzling driving mindset.
Perhaps her daughter should have used some contraceptives and avoided the situation altogether if she was going to get fucked. Condoms, birth control, morning after. All legal to use, and if she knew how to use them, probably could have avoided getting pregnant. Instead, she gets to potentially be the nations first underage breeder daughter? Someone would have to check the history on that one for me.

and meta--the babys age being confusing--i see the the earlier post reed is telling a reporter she was tested 2 years ago for her pregnancy and they found the downs link. duh---i suspect he missed it by a year since the kid was just born in april
