Man, I'd be pissed if this happened to me. I think the $30K she's asking for is a bit low. She should get more.

713 square feet... sounds pretty close to me, especially if the neighborhood isnt great. A house on the other side of me just sold for $8000... it was about 800 square feet, and in not that great of shape.

I am really surprised that the contractor would have taken a look at an obviously occupied house and not thought it strange. When you take down a house you have to at the very least disconnect the gas, water and electrical... Something isn't right here.

I would guess she should get more too. Even if the house is only worth $10,000, somebody f'ed up bigtime and I would have somebody's ass on a plate if I were her.

(if it were me) I would DEMAND, AT THE LEAST, replacement cost of the house and it's belongings, cost for shelter until a home was rebuilt or suitable replacement housing obtained. I think that that is only fair considering what was done to her!!!

Very good point. What kind of utility company, let alone 3 of them, would consent to disconnecting a residence just because a contractor says so?
