Reds Trade Griffey!!!

Pending his approval, since he's a 10 and 5 guy. Can't say that it's a big shock, but it's still kind of disappointing. He came to the 'Nati with so much promise, so much hope...and then, injury after injury. Reds fans never did fully appreciate him. He probably wasn't going to be with the Reds anyway next year, as this is the last year of his contract, and there's no way the Reds would pick up the option of $16 million for next year. I can only hope they get something of value from the ChiSox, and not some Single A pitcher.

lol.. I just saw this come across.. I think it'll be cool to see Griffey in a Soc uni, and as well as they are playing it'll give him one of his best shots at winning a title, which I'd like to see.... especially if it's for my Sox. But I'm on the opposite side, I hope they don't give anything more than a Double A player at best for him.

Maybe the Reds are just clearing salary to aquire Manny!

You might have something there... though I don't think the city could handle Manny and CJ at the same time.

rumor has it that the Red Sox, Pirates, and Marlins are working a three way trade, I forget where Manny ends up though.

Just heard a funny spot on 700 WLW in Cincinnati...(very tongue in cheek!)...it was a quick retrospect of his career in Cincy from the day he was traded to some of his injuries. The funniest line? "What does this mean for the Reds? Who will take over as the team's half-asser?"

Sort of. There was no way the Reds were going to pick up his $16 million dollar option for next year, so they might as well get what they can for him. And let's face it, nobody in their right mind is going to trade the Reds their best player(s) to get a guy who is in the twilight of his career...at best.

Plus there is another side to this. Junior may have worn out his welcome after what happened this weekend. After hitting a HR and crossing home plate, he gave the throat slash gesture and mouthed "F--- You" to Reds broadcaster Jeff Brantley after Brantley said Reds fans should boo Griffey for not dogging it on a catchable fly ball. This probably didn't sit too well with the Reds brass. Just guessing, but orders may have come down from the PTB to get what you can for him.

Yeah, but doing it in front of fans isn't the time or place to do it. It's unfortunate, b/c that's probably the ONLY bad thing Junior ever did while with the Reds. Never heard any stories of him with steroids, or running around with multiple women, or beating up other people. Hopefully Reds fans can look past that, I know I have. Somebody asked me about it the other day (the Griffey/Brantley thing). I told him I liked them both, and it's kind of like seeing your parents fight. You like them both and you don't want to choose sides. You just know they have to work it out themselves.

Reds get pitcher Nick Massat and 2nd baseman Danny Richar in the deal. Couldn't they have at the very least gotten Aunt Jemima? I hear she makes a better batter!

I'd been waiting to see who they got for him.. I'm wondering what happens if Konerko gets back into form.. they'll have him, Griffey and Thome to platoon at DH and or CF.. well.. not Thome there anyway. Guess it's never a bad thing to have extra bats lying around.. assuming Griffey can stay healthy and get some hits.

If the Sox play Griffey in CF instead of Swisher, they're f'ing idiots.
