Cheap food coming to an end?

Looks like it is a good time to be a farmer. Although I know there costs have also risen with the price of oil and natural gas. I believe it is time to let food be part of the CPI.

I don't have a great handle on this issue. I know enough about farming to know that everyone cashes in on higher prices, and that typically offsets whatever gains farmers might make. They have to pay more for the massive amount of fuel they use, or seed prices go up or anhydrous etc etc.

I would like to get a better understanding of what we are subsidizing for farmers and why. Dont know enough to know that the farm subsidies are right or wrong. It just seems to me that there should be enough demand for food that subsidies seem unnecessary.
