GOP "fast tracks" a Patriot Act renewal bill, which as I'm sure everyone is aware requires two thirds to pass... 26 republicans (mostly of tea Party ilk) defect, along with 122 democrats and the bill is defeated.

k... the Whip's job is to count the votes... he assumed they had the votes or they wouldn't be fast tracking it, so he didn't count the votes. I have no love for Nancy, but I don't think she would have miscalculated so.
