So it turns out that if you let the market work itself out there are people who will help out that are not the government... This guy started a non-profit company to make banks go back and accept refi's that the homeowner can afford on a fixed rate. They've had this story on CNBC all day.

This isn't using Gov't money, they are taking apps and going to the bank that holds the mortgage and telling them here's what this person can do, accept it or face the real possibility of a foreclosure. They are refi'ing the interest rate from what I've seen, not the loan amount.

That page isn't working all the time, I think they are getting bombarded with hits from people interested.
