Michigan Medicinal Marijuana

With 87 percent of the precincts reporting, 63 percent, or 2,557,410 people, voted "yes" on Proposal 1, which removes state penalties for registered patients to buy, grow and use small amounts of marijuana. Thirty-seven percent, or 1,519,273 voters, were opposed.

It really shocks me that this passed with such a majority... Medical marijuana has such a history of abuse on CA and elsewhere, I'm surprised Michigan backed it so heavily.

Ok, to date there have been 13 states to pass some form of medical marijuana legislation on the state level, that's 26%. (if you use the Obama scale of 57 states, it's only 23%)

I have a friend who told me her relative that lives in Washington or California has a prescription for MM because of "Phantom Limb Pain" because he lost a finger or a toe or something and he supposedly still feels pain from the nerve being severed or something. She told me that basically he says he can drive around town with a grow operation in the back of a van and it's all legal.

“Utilizing selective arrests and prosecutions, the federal government has sought to sabotage California’s reasoned approach to medical marijuana use,” said Graham Boyd, Director of the ACLU Drug Law Reform Project.

“For the first time, a court has recognized that a calculated plan by the federal government to undercut state medical marijuana laws is patently unconstitutional. Today’s decision forecasts an end to any organized federal effort to sabotage state medical marijuana laws.”

I'm not a criminal justice expert in any way but I wonder what the repercussions could be to those who were "targeted" by Federal prosecution. Do they get their money back, criminal record scrubbed? These are the tangibles. Some of the intangibles are lost businesses, jobs, jail time, family stress, etc.

It's just too bad that the little guy Mr. Citizen gets ground up in between the state and federal gears.
