American Idol and Ellen DeGeneres

Ellen DeGeneres is joining “American Idol” as a judge, taking the place of former judge Paula Abdul, Fox announced Wednesday.


I think Ellen will be authentic, funny and coherent on the show ... I like Ellen probably not who I would pick for a judge but the producers know more about the type of person they want than I do.

I think it's a great idea, but what the heck does she know about music?

Sort of like putting Dennis Miller on Monday Night Football......

I think she will do alright. Sort of a Ellen fan myself so I do hope she does okay. It does make me wonder if they are going to go on a rotating judge yearly now though.

And just think, she has a daily talk show to talk up Idol. Kind of a coup if you ask me.

i think for 3rd year simon keeps on keeping on altho lotsa speculation about it having dropped dramatically in ratings and money.

That usually happens when shows add the dreaded "new kid". Like when they added Oliver to the Brady Bunch, the girl in All in the Family, Family Ties, and of course Scrappy Doo.
