American Idol
Anyone watching this season? I could always count on bman, but don't remember if anyone else here watches that is still around.
Who's your vote for this year's winner? I like Aaron Kelly and Lee DeWyze.

Re: American Idol
I still watch it some, but not as much this year as in the past. Crystal Bowersox sounds like she's doing pretty well so far.Aggie Transplant wrote:Anyone watching this season? I could always count on bman, but don't remember if anyone else here watches that is still around.

Re: American Idol
I have never watched it much, but I hear Dancing with the Stars beat it in ratings last week. Could it be the Paula factor?

Naw, I think it's the Ochocinco factor. People love to watch 85 dance!Markwes wrote:I have never watched it much, but I hear Dancing with the Stars beat it in ratings last week. Could it be the Paula factor?

Re: American Idol
I'm watching it; I think Crystal Bowersox or Casey James. My dark horse is Siobhan Magnus. I love that first name the way it is spelled.
Couldn't believe it was Michael last week (even though he was saved). So ready to see Andrew and Aaron go.

Re: American Idol
Aaron was pretty lame last night. Didn't make it through much else -- need to watch tonight.

Re: American Idol
But... how surprising is it that Dancing beat it in the ratings? How many people are that interested in Elvis any more? Certainly not their target audience.

Re: American Idol
Lee DeWyze -- glad he won, but it can't have been based on his final performance, as Mamasox blew him away on the final show.

Re: American Idol
Ellen announced she's quitting yesterday...now Kara is out as a judge. Yo dawg...will Randy be next???
Re: American Idol
Does anyone really care? This show has run its course wouldn't ya say. Of course if Steven Tyler gets a judge job, I might be inclined to check out an episode.

Re: American Idol
Tens of thousands of people auditioning right now for next season and 24 million people who tuned in for the finale might beg to differ that it has "run its course." They're working on their 10th season already. Almost every show in America would kill to have the kind of ratings Idol churns out week after week.LTRT wrote:Does anyone really care? Humm, then these articles must be way off base then...
‘American Idol’ Ratings Hit a Low Mark
'American Idol' Finale Hits New Ratings Low
Lowest-Rated Idol Finale
I stand by my claim.

Re: American Idol
Still, 24 million people watching is 24 million people watching. When it gets down to 5 million people, then I would agree it has "run its course."
Re: American Idol
I also heard in a radio interview that a kid from the Voices of Unity choir that won gold in China is going to try out for Idol. Hope he makes it.

Re: American Idol
At one time I heard Bret Michaels was going to be one of the new judges....now I am not hearing anything about that.

Results shows next year will be cut in half to 30 minutes
I stand by my claim 2

At the end of the day, it all comes down to how they replace Simon. Can they find someone as acerbic and entertaining as he is?

Re: American Idol
The show definitely will not carry the weight without Simon Cowell. Some of the judges I have heard are too glitzy and will cause people to turn off the show I think. I would prefer to see them bring in an unknown recording executive like Clive Davis as a judge, not Justin Timberlake or Brett Michaels or JLO. I want someone who knows their shit ...

Re: American Idol
They also need more interesting contestants than last year. I don't think this last round was as awful as everyone says, but certainly there were no "wow" standouts.
From what I understand, the American Idols tour is not selling anywhere near as well as it has in the past.

It isn't just American Idol tour that is having trouble. All acts have either cut shows or have had lower sales.

Re: American Idol
so, no other Idol addicts out there? Bman, you lurking?
I was cheering for Scotty just because his voice reminds me of Randy Travis, so I was glad when he won. And there were some pretty harsh critiques of Lauren's voice, but keep in mind she had blown out a vocal chord earlier in the week.
I'm looking forward to the X Factor this summer. The judges this season, while colorful, were too bland in their judging. Everyone was great. Yeah, that's what we're looking for in critiques. Boooooring.

Re: American Idol
I started out with Scotty as my choice. However, as the contest went on James Durbin stole the show. Once he was booted I could have cared less who won. Just proves it is a popularity contest versus a real sing competition.
Re: American Idol
I too really liked James Durbin. Of the finalists...he's one I would buy his CD and maybe go to a concert. Scotty, Lauren, and Haley? Probably just buy their CDs (Mrs. Cincy Fan liked Haley so that's the only reason I would buy her CD).
I liked Steven Tyler a lot more than I thought I would. I didn't have a whole lot of expectations going into this season about him or J Lo, but both were good. I thought J Lo was MUCH better than Paula ever was.

Re: American Idol
agree that JLo is better than Paula, especially at shaking her ass. (that was just weird, for those of you that saw the results show.)
I really like James Durbin -- amazing voice. Hope the guy has a stellar career.

Steven Tyler stole the show as far as the judges go. Glad to see he could still hit the notes on the last show.
